In 2022, Beshear issued a veto of Senate Bill 83, which banned transgender girls from participating in girls' or women's sports from grades six through senior year of college. That veto was overridden by the state legislature.
The next year, Beshear vetoed Senate Bill 150, which banned gender-affirming care for transgender youth in Kentucky. In addition to banning puberty-blockers, hormones and surgeries for kids under 18, Senate Bill 150 banned lessons on gender identity and sexual orientation, prevents trans students from using the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity and stops school districts from requiring teachers use a student's pronouns if they don't align with their sex assigned at birth.
Again, Beshear's veto was overridden.
