dysphoria triggered in class... bleh.

So today in class we were studying 'reproductive behaviors'. And when we got to the part about pregnancy, I kind of had a meltdown. It was really weird. There I was, just taking notes, and it hit me. "OMG," I thought. "These parts he's talking about, uterus, ovaries, et cetera, I've got these things up in ME! ->-bleeped-<-!" And seeing pictures of sliced open dead people with babies in them from "Body Worlds" did not help. It was horrific, and sickening, and I almost started crying out loud in class. My notes suffered today. My 'dysphoria' is getting a helluva lot worse and I don't know WHY! It's not normal--or it seems not normal--for it to be triggered by clinical study of a human body/human organ systems. I could not wait to get the ->-bleeped-<- OUT of there today. Ugh. Anyone else had experiences like this?

i don't remember ever having the reproductive classes in school, but it does suck to be reminded of those parts. i'm not a woman, i shouldn't have to deal with those parts, or worry about pregnancy - gross! yeah, i feel ya, bud.

I think all sorts of things can be triggers. I've had it hit at the weirdest times. Usually any time I see sisters hanging out together gets me, but sometimes it's something unexpected.

And, yeah, I though Body Worlds was disturbing and gross.

It's a travelling exhibition of human corpses and body parts preserved using various curing techniques and displayed in an artistic manner. Yeah, Body Worlds is disgusting, IMHO. Especially what we saw in the video today: plastinated fetuses/babies in various stages of development, and pregnant females cut open to display the fetus. Horrific.

Body worlds is yucky. -frowns- Tough you had to go through that. I personally can't relate since I don't mind the equipment down there and the idea of me getting pregnant is just so laughable, it triggers nothing for me.

Happens to me too on occasion.  More often its just male/female conversations in biology class.  I'm beyond classes about reproduction(well at least human reproduction) but at the time of health classes I would just silently fume and stop paying attention.  The worst was when we were told to pick cards in bio lab (boys picked boy cards with 3 gene traits and girls obviously girl cards with the same) and we had to go around and "reproduce" with others in our class.......... vomit.... luckily my lab partner saw me as a guy and I felt no need to correct him(or.. incorrect him i suppose) so it wasn't so bad except worrying that someone I "mated" with was like "dude! you're a girl!" GAH

anywho yea... blows..... <3 at least its done and over with now?

Yeah, it's a five-week course so we probably won't cover this subject anymore in class, thankfully.

I always hated being separated by sex when I was a kid because I wanted to be with my friends.

OK, first off, you made 'down there' feel really nasty.    And managed to trigger my 'TG Heart Attack' (it's kinda like your heart has a meltdown. Your chest gets this really weird/painful feeling right around your heart. Usually accompanied by a wave of extreme depression that lasts for a short time while you think about it and shortly after.)

Ugh.... I have to take a semester of a class like this next year... called 'Human Interactions' or HI. I'll be having a lot of TG Heart Attacks during that class for sure. I hope I don't have to watch that video, but by what my sister tells me about the class, my chances aren't looking good. 

That really sucks that you had to see/think about that. I bet you barely made it out alive.

I kinda thought Body Worlds was cool. I didn't identify with any of the corpses or anything, so maybe that was why. I thought it was neat that people would have their bodies preserved that way and thought about donating my body to it, except that I don't want to be displayed as some kinda freak. The one I was most interested in was the cross section of an obese person and how clogged up their organs looked.

I'm not trying to discredit what you feel at all though Jon, just saying it is a very cool exhibit if you can separate yourself from it.
