I have to say, as awesome as the name change is, it was probably the hardest part of my transition thus far.  Telling my parents my named changed was so horrible.

I love my new name, and it feels so amazing to have it out of the way.

My parents acted as though I had died, their favorite son had died.  I tried to tell them that I hadn't died, that I was still here.  I can understand why they think this, however I can't actually understand it.  Coming out to them was easier than this.  I am sure they will get through it, they just need some time.

More often then not it is the family and close friends that have the hardest time accepting us. Personally I think that Society's view has not caught up with the Medical view of GID. It is much easier for people to blow off a Pychological Diagnosis and think that medicine should be able to cure your malady. They can't seem to wrap their minds around the extreme mental hell we actually experience, it is alien to them.

Hopefully with all the attention given to GID through the media, people will start to see that we aren't something less than human and do deserve our rightful place in life. After all, what we or asking is very simple, to be ourselves. Hugs.
