Name Change

Alright so it looks like I'll be getting the money to get my name change done. Until I'm 100% sure one way or the other I've decided to hold off on trying to get the fees waved. For now I'm just figuring out the process and such and it brought a question.

I have a $500 credit card that is overdue on payments. Will they let me get my name change with that on my credit? I hear of the credit evasion keeping them from changing it. That's obviously not the case as to why I want to change it but I don't wanna pay the fees then have a judge turn it down because of that.

Your overdue bill is not an issue ... money only plays a problem if you have a bankrupcy or judgement against you for $.  Since it's only over due stuff it really is not an issue.

No problem....

They don't even run a credit check on you -- some states do --- all they have you do is get fingerprinted & have a criminal background check.  You might even get the judge to order that your gender be changed on your birth certificate - let me know if you want that to happen as well & I can probably talk you through it -- in Minnesota you just have to add a line to your name change form.

I wish I could. Though I live in Florida, I was born in Virginia which is strictly an SRS only to change the birth certificate state 🙁
Here I would need top surgery to get the ID done but it looks like me and my mom are moving. And she's being awesome enough to only move somewhere that needs a letter to change my ID so that I don't have to rush into surgery.

If one state Florida orders your birth certificate changed ... then the other state is under the full faith and credit clause suppose to change it ... don't know about Virigina cause I haven't worked with clients from Virigina.

You could get a passport with male on it --- it's easy you now only need to show a psychological or physical change to the other gender -- so when you move with your passport with you new name and gender you should be able to get your driver's license changed .. .you might be able to get your florida license changed ... alot of times it's much easier to get your license change than a birth certificate

Wow man I'll have to look into all of that. I wish I could have you as a lawyer. You seriously know your stuff! It just so happens that I'll be getting a passport soon as I can get my name change. Just got a call back for a 2nd interview with a company so *fingers crossed* I can afford it soon. It would be incredible if I could convince them to order a gender change on my birth certificate.

Andrew, try to get your name change before you and your mother move. I've heard some states/places won't allow a name change until you've lived there for a period of time- sometimes a year.

Hey Radar thanks 🙂 I didn't even think of the waiting I would have to do. Me and my mom both got new jobs where I'm at today so it looks like I'll be here a couple more years now but I'll definitely make sure it's changed before we move.

Ya, it's called proving residency ... typically it's 6months ... some states it's a year ... it's designed b/c the courts have to prove they have jurisdiction

I didn't know that anywhere would let you change birth certificates this easily.  Unfortunately, I think Colorado requires top surgery, but I'll have to look into Oregon's rules, as I may be moving there soon.
