Came out to my best friend and girlfriend

Woo~ Im new here so hey everyone.
Mainly sharing this here because my best friend recommended me coming to this site to find support...


So a few nights ago I came out to being a woman to my best friend. Shes the type of person who will sit there and let me explain things over and over and let me get nervous... Just because... (Note we dated at one point and we have known each other for ten years). I explained i always have felt this way and that I've always wanted to be a woman since I was little. That growing up as a guy and having to practice as a guy was very... Traumatizing...

After thirty min of me just talking and talking and talking and freaking out because she didnt say anything...

She smiled..
Giggled..
And said, I've known for about 8 years...

I was shocked >.>

Her next question was...
Whats your name?

I was baffled at how...
Normal she made it sound. It was quite different from what I thought it would be... Sadly had to tell her I didn't have a name in mind. She seemed to already understand everything and just thought it was cute that I finally came to terms to it.

Haha...


Next person was my girlfriend. Told her and she immediately said, "yeah, I thought you knew I knew... I knew before we even started dating."

Shocked.

So the journey has offically started. Welcome to the ride of your life. It should bear you unimaginable joy and peace. No longer do you need to be traumatised. If you haven't already done so, lining up a good therapist who is conversant with gender matters will set you in good stead for the next part of the journey. Spend a bit of time with yourself going through a list of names and their meanings (you'll find plenty of naming sites on the net) and find your name. It just puts so much more meaning and purpose to the whole thing when you do.

Congratulations on coming out, and on the spectacular reception you've gotten!  Sometimes people surprise you, and sometimes you haven't been fooling everyone as well as you thought.  (Personal experience).  It's always great to hear about those kinds of reactions.

Yes, that is exactly how i feel. I just didn't realize it so soon. My best friend is the president of Nami at her school. She has so many resources on Gid. I found a therapist and everything, working towards what i want and i have support from both of them. Sadly i do not think my christian parents, nor their extremely conservative ways will...

Once i brought a girlfriend over who was diagnosed with depression. Next thing i know im being told how bad of a person I am for bringing trash in the house.

Actually debating on dropping them completely since we have never been on good terms... Might see where it goes.

Hi, and congratulations for taking a big step.  I'm glad it went so well, your girlfriend and friend are gems beyond price.  Give them a hug from all of us, and I mean that literally.   It's good to hear a coming out story like yours.

As for your parents, maybe they should read this book that is out, about this bloke called Jesus and his story telling.  He had a really good one about this bloke that got mugged, and was only helped by a Samaritan, of all people.  Otherwise known as, "scum of the earth."   They might find it a bit instructive.
You might remind them that this Jesus fellow came to a bad end at the hands of the so-called "good people" as well.
