"The purpose of the nine-member committee, Chief McLaren said, is to open the lines of communication between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities and police officers. Members of the committee include various representatives from those communities as well as two police officers with the city force, Sergeant John Lyons and Leslie Harries-Jones, the victim services co-ordinator for Peterborough. Through their representation and the input from other members, the committee hopes to make Peterborough's streets safe with regards to crimes of violence, discrimination and harassment".
