Republican governor stops trans law of his own party

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has used a veto to stop a law from his own Republican party. The law prohibits hormone treatments and puberty blockers for children who want to change gender, but according to DeWine, such a ban can cost lives.

"It's about protecting human lives for me. I have heard from many parents that their child would no longer have been there if it had not been treated. Also, adults told me that as teenagers they would have put an end to their lives without this care."

DeWine does plan to allow surgical sex changes for adults only. He also wants to better regulate and monitor that process in his state. 76-year-old DeWine is working on his last term
