Supermodel Alex Consani made history on Monday as the first trans woman to serve on the Met Gala host committee.
The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year. This year's theme, costume art, brought out a host of elaborate ensembles from queer celebrities like Ben Platt, Lux Pascal, and Hunter Schafer. Draped in a white Gucci gown, Consani told a Vogue interviewer she was "so honored to be here tonight."
"It's an interesting year to be here," she continued, "but I'm really honored. I'm the first trans woman to host the Met, so this is a really big moment for me."
This is not the first time Consani has made history. She was also the first trans woman to win Model of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London.
Consani signed with IMG Models in 2019 and built a following on social media, getting almost four million followers on TikTok. She walked the runway for the first time for Tom Ford in 2021 and later walked for Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Versace. In October 2024, she became the first trans model to walk the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, alongside Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio.
