So you probably remember I just got a Cycloid Drawing machine. Well, that was a simple one I bought while I was waiting for the real deal to arrive. And it arrived this morning! This one has a motor, so I don't have to crank the handle for half an hour. My first attempt was wonky, but this was my second attempt.

Today's practice sheet done with the 96 tooth ring, a full sheet snakeskin in brown, and a larger full page drawing done using a doughnut piece, which gives parallel lines.

My three new sets arrived today. The Full Page Gear Set, the Plentiful Gears Set, and the Hoops Set. I spent over an hour unpacking them and peeling off the backing paper. I now have an overwhelming variety of Wild Gears to play with. 😀

But never mind that, I just spent the afternoon watching this thing draw, and it is mesmerizing!

First drawing with the new Full Page Gear Set! For those keeping up with the math, it's a 180 tooth ring and an 80 gear. They share a common factor of 20. 180/20 = 9, so it's a 9 petal design. Holes A2-9 blue, B2-9 purple.

It looks like the same ring, so I assume a different gear size is affecting the gear/tooth ratio?

Yes. They share the common factor of 45. 180/45 = 4, so it makes a 4 petal design. 🙂

I'm on my first cup of coffee, so my brain refused to do the mental gymnastics. I tried to figure out the numbers, but I remembered the gears have different holes. My brain said, "Too many variables for so little coffee."
