A far-right political action committee has released an anti-trans AI-generated attack ad depicting Texas Democratic Senate candidate and state Rep. James Talarico in a dress. 

The ad shows an AI-generated Talarico in a dress similar to the one worn by Julie Andrews in 1965's The Sound of Music, singing a version of "My Favorite Things" with lyrics re-worked to mischaracterize the 37-year-old Democrat's pro-trans positions.

"Boys in white dresses with blue satin sashes. Girls dosed with hormones til they grow mustaches. Changing the gender of all your offspring. These are a few of my favorite things," the Talarico avatar sings in the ad, according to right-wing outlet The Daily Caller.

The 15-second clip does not indicate that it was generated by AI.

Citizens for Sanity reportedly spent six figures on the ad campaign attacking Talarico, who is currently leading Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) by three points in the race for one of the state's two U.S. Senate seats, according to a poll released this week.

Democrats consider Talarico their best chance at flipping one of the state's two Senate seats and retaking the chamber in November — especially since President Donald Trump endorsed the embattled Paxton. As Dr. Warren J. Blumenfeld wrote for LGBTQ Nation earlier this month, Talarico has made his progressive Christian values a centerpiece of his campaign, including criticizing the Republican Party's obsession with transgender Americans.
