Things to do in Provincetown?

I hope this is the right forum for this question.  I'm in Provincetown for the next week and a half, and I'm just curious, what are some cool things to do here?  And are there particular places I might meet other trans people?  I just got here today.  I just realized I was trans in February, and this is the first time I've had the chance to live and dress the way I want for an extended time.  So far I love this place!

There is a tower to go up and look out.  There are beaches.  There is the Red Inn for expensive food and lodging.  There is the LOBSTER POT eatery.  There are lots of eateries.  Take a boat ride.  Art places and maybe still a bookstore.   There are many shops.


Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

I spent most of my time in P-town sitting in the center and people watching. I usually would go to Atlantic Accents and buy myself a new necklace every time I was there.

Definitely get a lobster roll, a slice from Spiritus, and a footlong hotdog. Go down every little alley, there's lots of tiny shops hidden away. Just mind your Ps & Qs if you go down the little alley next to the Boatslip... that one leads to the "Dee eye see kay" Dock (rhymes with tick tock). Not for casual tourists! 🤣

Also , if you can get to the Tea Dance at the Boatslip, do it. You just might end up at the aforementioned dock. 😉

Have fun and watch out for the bears. And their otters. 😄

I recommend visiting the lighthouse at Highland Links golf course.

There also a lighthouse at Race Point but the NPS doesn't recommend hiking there.
You don't see it until you are nearly there.  There is a lot of poison ivy on the trail.

Thank you all for the ideas!  These are great, and I've been having a lot of fun with them.  I think I'll come back in the Fall for Trans Week, if I am able to.

Ooh ooh! Marine Specialties, the army/navy surplus store. You can spend an afternoon in there! Here's a few photos of me in Provincetown. If there's any chance you can get there for the Halloween Tea Dance, do it! I walked around with that bucket of Reese's Cups saying "Candy, little boy? (or girl)" all night. 🤣

During major theme weekends like Spooky Bear & Halloween Weekend, groups of friends often pull off perfectly coordinated, massive group costumes. A giant pack of "Man Milkers" hitting Commercial Street all dressed in identical retro milkman uniforms is traditional. 🤣

I think there is an annual run with males running in chaps or other leather gear.

I never saw that, nor wish to!  But it must be an event that many participate and/or enjoy watching.

Back in DC now!  My God, Provincetown was amazing!  I loved it!  There are so many things I didn't get to, but the things I did were awesome!  And really, the best part of all was just being somewhere with so many fabulous and accepting people!  This was the first time I have ever had the opportunity of just dressing, acting and living the way I want without fear of judgment, and I loved it.  I hope to be able to go again in October for Trans Week and the Halloween Tea Dance, if I can.  If only lodging weren't so expensive, but I will try to make it work.

Does anyone have any suggestions for lower-cost places to stay?  I was in the 500 block of Commercial Street this time, on the east side of town, easily walkable to the town center.  Has anyone found that it's cheaper to stay a little farther away from Provincetown?  Do you still find this accepting atmosphere farther away, like in Truro?

One of the highlights was the whale tour.  There were so many whales around the boat.  It was amazing to see these magnificent giants in their rightful place.  The tour guide did say it was unusual to see so many, though.  Here is a video I took of them:  🔗

Cape Cod is expensive.  You should try all the booking Web sites, including the specific hotel sites and generic booking sites, to hunt for rooms, including Airbnb and VRBO for houses (if you will be going with others.)

You can try hotels along route 6.  Dune Crest is not that far and it would be around $200-250 a night I think this time of year.  Check for the dates you wish to travel.  But you may get complimentary parking and breakfast.

Sad story, I was on the Salacia (the high speed catamaran) going home from P-town one night and there was a big shudder. The captain came on the intercom and said that we may have unfortunately hit a whale. 😢
