WASHINGTON — South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham died on July 11, according to his office. He was 71.

A statement posted to his social media account said he "passed away from a brief and sudden illness" and that "Senator Graham's family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period."

Graham's death marks the passing of a longtime conservative fixture of the Senate, and one of President Donald Trump's closest political allies.

In his more than three decades in Washington, Graham played major roles in crafting key pieces of legislation, affecting millions of Americans' lives, while also developing a reputation as a stark foreign policy hawk. The Republican died just a year after helping shepherd through the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act as the powerful chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.

South Carolina just entered the political spotlight for the next several months.  The state is considered safe or deep red.  Nancy Mace has already claimed a front runner position retaining her disconnection with reality that should have been evident with her poor placing in her shot at the Governor's Race in SC. Her comment on x: "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in..." shows that disconnection.  SC Governor McMaster gets to appoint a successor to Graham for the balance of his term and that appointment may boost the political chances if the interim person is in the race.  Monday News Cycles will be wild.

I've said a hundred times that the world will be a better place when my generation all die. They're dropping like flies now. I better check to make sure my life insurance is paid in full! 🤣

Every generation has its pros and cons. No group is all bad or all good.

I have a bit of a problem with people running the world at an age that they have less than a decade to live making up policy that are going to affect the younger generations for years to come.
