Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a video posted Wednesday afternoon that military doctors will now annually screen the testosterone levels of male service members over the age of 30 and offer testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) as a way to keep military men on the "leading edge of lethality."

Numerous web commenters noted that he's essentially offering a type of gender-affirming care and hormone replacement therapy to men—the program continues the administration's focus on hyper-masculinity and could have unintended health consequences.

Testosterone levels in men naturally lower with age, Hegseth notes. Low testosterone can cause muscle loss, weight gain, fatigue, and is linked to other serious health issues like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and depression, The Hill notes.

While the Trump administration has moved to make TRT more widely available, TRT in men can create a lifelong dependence by shutting down natural testosterone production.

Can you imagine if they allowed estrogen replacement too?
