Post-op anatomy

I'm coming up on 6 months post-op in a wee bit now and was wondering about how much the swelling is supposed to go down by. Sorry to get a little explicit here but the labia majora are still really puffy vertical-clamshell-shaped and the labia minora are...well, non-existent. Does anyone have clearly defined labia minora, which by my definition (and it probably isn't correct) has "flappy" folds?

If it matters, I'm a Brassard gal.

Hello its been yrs since mine and meeting others who went to montreal but what they showed me was very little in the way of labia. Meltzer was the oppisite i have elephant ears and wish i had what you have but oh well the grass is always greener elsewhere.

Every woman is different down there. Some have very little labia minora while others have what was said by the previous post, elephant ears. Some women go to have labia reconstruction because they don't like the the look of their labia's, other are fine with the shape and look of their labia. The most important part to remember is that no two girls look the same down there.

Look at some of Dr. Alter patients of female who went for Labiaplasty. Personally speaking, I would have been happy to have any of these girls looks down there to not have to have suffered the way I suffered growing up.

Not I. Considering how little there was to work with, I am satisfied with "skinny lips", both major and minor.

I had swelling for almost a year. I don't know if that is normal or not. I did go to a OBGYN and she said that in some the swelling takes time to go down. It finally did and I'm post op for 5 years. Everyone is different. Just make sure there is no infection.

According to Brassard's own post-op info, pubic and labia swelling should be gone by around four months... although I'm sure it varies per person.

Thank you to all who replied, both here and privately. I suspect that the "puffy" effect may indeed be permanent. Given that there is some asymmetry, looks like labiaplasty may be something I'm going to have to start saving up for.

Labia majora and minora, of trans and natal females are as unique as
fingerprints, or snowflakes, with no two being the same.

Sometimes in some one stage GRS procedures women may not be pleased
with the appearance of their labias.

In those cases they may opt to have a relatively painless and inexpensive
labiaplasty.

Indeed many natal women will have labiaplasty, vaginoplasty consisting
of rejuvenation and  tightening of the vagina. Clitoral unhooding,
(hoodectomy), and even hymen repair.

Hmmmm....I don't have any problems with  "elephant ears" or anything of that nature at all, and I am a Meltzer's graduate as well (class of 2007).  To be quite honest, Dr. Meltzer has considerably improved his techniques in the last few years, and he seems to be moving towards the one-stage procedure IMO.  I am extremely happy with my results and don't think I need a labiaplasty, but you never know what the future may bring .  You can actually see what I'm talking about in this 2004 picture:

In my case (Like Sheila) the swelling went away after about a year, of course there was no pain just puffiness.  Both my labia majora, and minor are now well defined but I did have some doubts.  Remember that no matter what every person reacts differently to surgery, and even Brassard will tell you that it can take up two years for everything to look "Normal"
I'm a Brassard girl and I think there still may be a picture of my results in the Wiki that I posted two years ago.  Not sure if it's still there as I just re-appeared here at Susan's.

Sheesh! Those pictures are GROSS!

I had SRS in 1974 (Dr. Biber), which should be pretty primitive by today's standards, and I don't have "elephant ears" (thank gawd!) but look pretty normal (GG normal), maybe a touch "little girlish". (Funny, it doesn't look "worn" but I have sure tried to wear it out LOL!)

I can't imagine today's surgical techniques aren't a whole lot better. Relax and enjoy the new toy!

No no no no! I didn't mean anybody's picture in particular just all those pictures of unhealed "wounds". I am not put off by the female anatomy but those pictures are a little well ..... "different".

I think this is another case of it depends on the individual: how much material there was to work with, how they heal, and luck.  I had my surgery just two weeks ago with Dr. Bowers.  I had very minimal swelling right from the day of surgery.  As of present, I have a well defined labia minora, and a little bit puffy....but nice labia majora.  Even in its current state, I feel it looks as good or better than the equipment I saw on my last bio girl friend.
