The Department of Work and Pensions confirmed that 122 male-to-female transsexuals aged between 60 and 64 have so far qualified for the new right.

Under the Gender Recognition Act 2005, such people have to obtain a Gender Recognition Certificate from the Gender Recognition Panel, which requires evidence from a doctor or a registered psychologist.
