ok, we all know i used to do nothing but bitch about working at walmart. it's been somewhta of a blessing in disguise some days to have finally been thrown out by their own close-minded stupidity.
anyways, i filled out application after application at my local Lowe's hardware store. i obviously passed their assessment test, not once but three times, as when i went in for my first interview, the HR lady said i had popped up on three different ones. i didn't remember the other two i had filled out but told her i would be interested in the lawn and garden position. i was a little scared of having to show my DL if i had gotten hired as i haven't had the funds to get my name legally changed yet (there is no waiver in my county or so they want to continue to tell me). i passed my first interview, and had my second and third interviews the next day which i wasn't expecting which lasted about two hours. i was offered the job, and a drug test was performed and i informed her that my id had a different name on it than my app. she asked if it was my maiden name, i said no, my parents were just um, unique in their choice of names. (after all the presidents mom's name is Stanley, Ann is her middle name. i watched a jeopardy episode the other night and the woman's name was Stewart!!) anyway's it's not uncommon anymore for girls to have boy's names. she said she had to use what was on my id for my drug test. i was just hoping she wouldn't get confused when it came back..lol
i started orientation the following monday, i filled out all my tax forms with Mekayla--no questions were EVER asked. i mean i'm only going to be there for three months at least at present, but if i am there longer i don't think it's going to matter. we started taking testing online through their computer system, where it has your name it read Mekayla *******. when the new schedule was finally put up for us in the break room. the schedule for me read Mekayla with the first half of my last name blacked out with permanent marker. for once in my life, i actually have a job i like going to where they actually truly DO respect their employees. THEY DID ALL OF THIS WITHOUT A DAMNED COURT ORDER that those ->-bleeped-<-s at walmart wanted so damned bad!!! she wouldn't fax anything for me, which is ok because she said there at Lowe's it's for our privacy. and as far as i know, the hr woman is the only one who knows my birth name. i finally have a place where i can go to work and just be me and know one questions my gender, my name or anything. and instead of firing people for not knowing something you get recertified so that you do know it. i will really be sorry to see me and Lowe's having to part in June because the position is only seasonal. but i'm glad to be happy with my job for at least a little while
