🔗
Historically, transgender (TG) persons have often had difficult interactions with healthcare providers. Many TG persons are reluctant to approach healthcare providers, and many healthcare providers are uncomfortable caring for TG patients. But TG persons have not only the usual risks and healthcare problems, but also unique problems related to hormones, surgery, or lifestyle. TG persons are often discriminated against and may suffer depression, isolation, or substance abuse problems. This combination of factors poses risks for a broad spectrum of health problems. Of particular concern is the TG person who has or is at risk for HIV infection.
