Oyku Ozen, a transsexual from the northwestern province of Bursa, has filed to be a candidate for deputy from the main opposition Republican People's Party, or CHP.

Ozen noted that politicians have looked down on gays and transsexuals for some time. She asked: "Why can't a transsexual woman be a candidate? Who will be the voice of sex workers in nightlife? They even don't knock on our door to ask for our vote."
