Crap, you too!?  I'm starting to think there are more musicians here than not.  I really wish I could play classical and not sound like an idiot.  Sometimes I listen to Segovia and just want to give up completely.  I can usually get through Bach - Bouree in E minor without screwing it up too badly, but that's about it.  I did do a pretty cool metal arrangement of the rockin' parts Beethoven's 7th, 2nd movement though.  Making that chart was an undertaking with my ADD.

Classical is hard to learn, but it's not as challenging once you practice.  It's just hard to go from a pick to plucking.  Though I've been frustrated listening to Segovia as well.  He may not be the most technical person out there, but he has so much passion in his playing.  I've tried learning his rendition of Bach's Chaconne an since then I've been going back to electric more because I'm so frustrated, lol.

Nicely done :)

I played around with a couple of mediumly successful bands, but gave up after the emo craze died. I don't want to play "beige music for beige people" aka hipster songs, lol!!!

Hint - get yourself a thumb pic - helps like you can't even imagine :)

I am professional musician (guitar and piano player, composer) for almost all my life and I've been a little bit scared, that the hormones will affect my abilities in a negative way, but I was nicely surprised, that I actually started playing more accurately and not that messy like before. Also, I am more relaxed and have more desire to play and now I am in much better technical state, than before the transition.... In fact, I had close to no desire to play in the last years before HRT, so it definitely helped me :)

Won't affect you negatively at all, in fact, it will make you even MORE artistic :D Go for it girl :)

Are you talking about the pics that go around the thumb or are you referring to growing out your nail on the thumb more?  I prefer to be all fingers (and a little nails) when it comes to classical.  An actual pick would feel like cheating to me even though it isn't.  Unfortunately, I'm always breaking my nails, so that sucks.

the type that protrude 90 degrees from your thumb vs using your nail. Use the side of your thumb, not the tip - it works far better that way, and just use your finger tips
