I've just started Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I was a bit worried about it based on some reviews I'd read but at about 8 hours in it's pretty good.

There is an option now in some of the dialog to define your character as trans. I'm not sure what effect this will have story wise but as I wasn't expecting it it was a positive surprise.

Yeah, Bioware took a LOT of heat for that. It's one big reason the game received a lot of negative attention. I've played a bit of it myself. Far as I can tell, it gives you extra conversation choices in relevant conversations because the game explores gender identity with some characters. Another reason it got a lot of heat. Because we all know the majority of neckbeards want to be "Shooter guy". And hate people having options and choices over how they want their character to be. In the same way Cyberpunk 2077 took heat for allowing you to choose your character's body type and genitalia separate from their identity, and how you wanted to roleplay them. If you aren't playing a gigachad, dudebro character with massively overproportioned, skimpy women in games these days, a lot of people don't like it. And aren't shy about being vocal about it. Which is a shame.

I won't spoil anything for you, Isobel, other than to say take what you get from a place of people trying to understand people with different identities... with admittedly mixed success. But points for effort. :)

I am looking forward to Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2. For probably obvious reasons, lol. I never got the chance to play the original, which I have seen other people play and it's a bit of a cult classic.

Borderlands 4 and needing to finish off Farcry 6.  I was playing 3 characters in Fallout 76 recently, but it started to feel like a job to login and just do dailies so quit recently.  My Steam account is 21 years old this month.  Just recently built a new gaming PC.  I have the following platforms, PC, Xbox X, PS5, SteamDeck, Oled Switch.  My Steam name is Life.  Avatar looks like RR.  I've always played female characters before I even understood why.

I've gotten back into World of Tanks (ColoradoTankGirl), and now with the new computer, it zips right along. I use Aslain's ModPack, and it seems like he updates the thing daily, sometimes twice a day. I spend more time installing updates than playing the game! UGH

You're making me want to log back in. I was once quite dangerous in my IS-7, before it was wholly outclassed. I've played off-and-on since launch, but it's been probably 4 years since my last time.

Over the weekend I pulled down Fellowship 🔗 [Link: playfellowship.com/en/] which is billed as 'WoW PvE dungeon finder as a standalone game' and it's greatly entertaining me. I dusted off a Belkin n52te that I used for WoW which hasn't had drivers since Windows XP and made it work just for the dear occasion!

I played for years, but ragequit and deleted my account when Wargaming removed a Content Creator for BS reasons. A few months after the boycotts and protests, Wargaming released version 2.0 and offered "new" players a ton of freebies. So I am back in, grinding away at my tier four collection.

Fellowship sounds interesting. I loved WoW but hated the PvP part of it. Standalone PvE versions are the magic words to catch my interest. Thanks for the tip!

I have kind of wanted to try World of Warships several times, for obvious reasons. But I just... I really can't do PvP games. And I mean physically can't. I have a subconscious thing in me to not want to hurt other people. I tried PvP a few times back in my WoW days and it always made me feel literally nauseous and my heart would start to race. I don't know whether that was an adverse reaction to adrenalin or what, but I just can't do it. Even though it looks super cool... I just can't fight other people, even in games.

Which is odd coming from someone who was literally doing something akin to the real life thing for a good few years. I dunno. That always seemed... detached somehow. And I was never in an actual engagement. I probably would have thrown up, lol.

I played Warships and Warplanes for a bit. What you are forgetting is that THERE ARE NO PEOPLE involved. They are just targets, and even if you destroy them, no one gets hurt. Yes, there is a player against you playing their best strategy against yours, but they are not in the ship, plane, or tank.

My biggest issue with PvP was gangs that would ambush you while you were trying to complete an important quest or mission. Once? OK, you got me. But over and over. UGH.

In World of Warcraft, I started an Assassins Guild, and we hunted those PvPers for sport. We would stalk newbs and wait for the ambush, then ambush the ambush. Talk about Mob Action. Twenty thieves/assassins against a few warriors. Their clerics couldn't keep up.

Yeah that's the really weird thing. I have tried to think that way. I really have. And that's basically what they try to get you to think like in the Navy. Which... oddly I didn't really have an issue with. But then it was all training and wargames. My brother went to Iraq twice in the Army, while I was busy looking at whales mating, lol. I would like to think that I would have been able to think like that if it came to it but it never came to it.

Maybe it's more that I don't like competition, I don't know. I can figure out AI, but people are unpredictable.

I like the idea of griefing the griefers. I suffered that so much. When I first played WoW, my friend who introduced me got me to play on a PvP server, and I died so many times while trying to just do PvE stuff. I almost quit. We transferred to a PvE server instead. I cannot understand the brain of someone who just wants to ruin someone else's day for the fun of it.

I think it was boredom. It was never the higher-level characters; it was always mid-level. The starting areas were safe zones, but once you completed those areas and moved to the next map, you were fair game. The griefers had completed that area, so they knew where to ambush. They weren't high enough themselves to venture into the hazardous areas or engage in Boss fights or raids, so they would get some action using what limited skills they had.

I saw it as a "training opportunity" for my guild members, and a recruiting opportunity if the victims were of our class. We made quite a few allies that way by sticking up for weaker casters and helping them with tough quests.

Eventually, I left because the gold spammers just ruined the whole game. I moved to Eve Online for a while, then SWTOR. I tried a few others here and there. Then I struck gold and had little time for gaming.

Hah, were you around when the gold spammers used to create website names out of dead Gnomes in front of the Stormwind auction house? That was highly creative. ;D

YES! That was hilarious at first. Then it got predictable, then annoying. But it was creative.
