We really don't have any plans for the 4th of July, other than to watch the Aspen Acres fire. It has been growing every day, and it's now the eighth largest in Colorado state history (almost 74,000 acres now). The smoke plume occasionally passes directly over our house, and at times we have ashes falling at our house. The smoke has made for some spectacular sunsets, with the sun turning a deep red 15 to 20 minutes before it sets. During the day we usually just see a lot of smoke. At night, we can see the flames. The front edge of the fire is 10 - 12 miles away from our house. The 'authorities' are not concerned about the fire reaching Pueblo or the area where we live, but we are watching it closely.
We had a fawn visit yesterday morning, and it took a drink from a small water trough we keep outside. It's been really dry, and we know there are a lot of thirsty animals around. We also go through three or four jars of grape jelly every week. Watered-down grape jelly seems to be the favorite food of the local Bullock's Orioles.
