I have tried once, and it was of a high quality, like real hair. But I felt it wasn't me. So I keep my short grey hair up with gel, as a woman with short grey hair would. It enhanced my earings as well. I felt way better and in harmony with myself.

Just curious, how do they match a particular wig to your face. tone etc. Can you get one with out make-up on or not. This is one of my next steps I'm looking into. I'm wanting something that looks authentic.

No I don't wear wigs, even to Halloween parties because they are too hot on head (and I don't mean hot as in sexy, I mean HOT!)

They have color swatches that you hold next to your face in different lighting conditions. I wasn't wearing makeup when I went, but whatever you prefer. Most of the time, I am not wearing makeup, so I wanted to match my natural skin tone. But I have done both, with and without makeup.

She also has a variety of wigs in different styles. You ignore color and try those on to see if you prefer bangs, side-swept, center part, or side, length, and cut, etc. Then she orders the style in the color that you want from step 1 above.

In the summer, I wear a topper. They are much cooler because they only cover the top of the scalp. They are also woven to provide air circulation. The issue with them is getting them to match my hair color. Since they are not easy (near impossible) to change, it is easier to change my hair color to match the topper. (EASIER, not EASY).

When I am out in the forest mining or prospecting, I just wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Sometimes.

I remember sitting at a park table a number of years ago and some what must have been teen girls walked by and saw me sitting and were talking to each other and looking at me as they walked.  They giggled.  I was "clocked."  A couple of them said Hi! as they past by.

One said that I actually looked better than her mother though. I suppose that was good but. . .

It was a bittersweet moment.

I happened to wear a wig at that time.  It was a long blonde wig which really I should not have been wearing.  Strawberry blonde would have been much better.

Since then, I have been more selective and purposeful when choosing, fitting, purchasing, and wearing a wig.  I do prefer my own hair for everyday.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

If I ever decide to be more than a closet crossdresser, then I will likely wear a wig.  I am leery of letting my hair grow that long when I still present as male a majority of the time.

Getting a proper fit is important. The wig must fit properly and the style should look good with your face shape. The color goes with your skin tone/makeup. Very often the fail is in these areas, and then it just looks like a poor fitting wig. We have all seen examples of men wearing a bad toupee. Same concept.

I have two wigs. One is auburn, the other is brown. Both are of questionable quality (Amazon for less than $50). I rarely wear either though the auburn is my favorite. Occasionally, I feel compelled to put on a wig just so I can look into a mirror and see someone who resembles a woman. Usually, though, I am unconcerned about the way I look and focus on how I feel. Skirts and dresses, blouses and cute little footies seem to do that quite well.

Even with that, my sensory issue also precludes me from wearing a wig.  Besides I already have my hair shoulder length.  At most, aside from hair transplant surgery, I might get hair extensions to help add in some thickness up top in the future.
