My general Family doc called an endo who he knew, and I was in in the next week.  He got me going, and made a referral to a transgender specialist endo for "fine tuning", and that took about 2 month to get in!

It took almost 2 months just to get an appointment, which is much longer than actually going to other specialists.  I suspect this may be due to so few working with trans, as compared to other medical needs.  I expect if I had to see an endocrinologist for something else, such as diabetes, the wait would be much less.  I also suspect there was a surge in demand, after the protocols for transgender services were changed back in 2016.  The process is much easier than it used to and perhaps encouraging more to transition.

My experience with other referrals has generally been 2 weeks or less.
I'm a 65 year old male who has been thinking about SRS for many years.  I also was a  full cross dresser for a few years.  I wear a bra, pantyhose and nail polish daily because it just feels right.

My "normal" endo does diabetes and stuff like this, and it was rather easy to get in.  Of course there has to be a reason for docs to specialize (like I did infection Control & Prevention), and that reason is partially dictated by demand.  There are way more diabetic people in the US (almost 1/2 of the population) than there are trans people, which means, a endo specialized with trans stuff will not have the chance to get a full patient load when there are to many of this specialty around.  And that is the reason that there are few specializing in trans stuff.  Now that more trans are coming out, they have now an overload of patients.  This might change once young doc's see that they can get enough patients with specializing toward this field (as long as the current administration will not drive us back into the closet).

My endocrinologist appointment is just a month away.  As I am already on dutasteride, I don't expect I'll be needing another anti-androgen.  Anyone else here using it, instead of spiro, etc.?

BTW, I asked my doctor about why it took so long to get the appointment and whether being for hormones had anything to do with it.  Apparently, there are priorities, depending on why you need the appointment.  For some, such as cancer patients, the wait isn't long.  Diabetics a bit longer etc.  Also, not may endocrinologists work with trans patients.

I had my appointment with the endocrinologist today.  The appointment took about a half hour.  We discussed why I thought I was trans, what my plans were and expected from hormones and also the medical issues that may be involved.  I walked out of the office with a requisition for blood work and a prescription.  I went to a lab across the street from the doctors office, for the blood work and then took the prescription to my usual pharmacy.  I then went home and immediately took my first pill, even before walking the dog.  Looking forward to the results!

BTW, I expect to be a D cup within a week.   ;) :D :D :D

WOO HOO !!!!!  Getting the first prescription and taking it is so exciting.  I kept the empty bottle of my finestride and what the heck is that other one called?  Whatever it is an androgen/testosterone blocker.  Don't need that stuff anymore but it was so exciting to start the journey.

I've been on dutasteride for a couple of years and don't have to take any other anti-androgen.

One other thing.  I had earlier wondered why it took so long to see an endocrinologist.  I thought it might be due to a big increase in trans people looking for help, since the protocols changed 3 years ago.  Turns out  I was right.  I was talking to the receptionist and she said that's what happened and the doctor is currently training other endocrinologists in this sort of work.  His is a usual practice, working with hormone issues for various reasons, but he chose to expand into transgender work.

Congrats!  You know that the cup size depends on the bandwidth?  You might be an E cup without knowing it  >:-)
Look at me, i would be an EE cup, if my bandwidth would be 32!

I'll leave it to the fitters in the bra shop to tell me what size I am, but even before HRT I was a 38A.  Also, I think my breasts may have enlarged a bit, since starting dutasteride a couple of years ago, but I can't be certain.

BTW, with many years experience in the telecommunications industry, bandwidth has a different meaning for me.  also, I thought the measurement referred to band size (length) not width.  At the back, my bras are only about 1" wide.   ;)

I was just reading through the information sheet that came with my estradiol.  It's obvious it wasn't written with trans women in mind.   ;)

I have thought about this for many years and after I asked my doctor for the referral, I had moments when I wondered if I was doing the right thing.  Now, though, there's absolutely no doubt I am.  I couldn't wait to take the first pill yesterday and now look forward to the next one, and the next, and the...

I am very happy I've started this phase of my life and waiting to see the physical results.  They can't come soon enough!

You might not want to wear them when it is hot!  What about that feeling under those conditions?  ???
