My eldest rang me, he is in Cornwall going to his partners brothers wedding tomorrow. Having a much needed break he said, it was good of him to ring and see if I was okay with the heat.

That's exactly the type of ac unit I was talking about. Place in the window, drop the sash, expand the accordian sides and done. Noise is not that bad. You definitely hear them, though. I once had a unit with a dual inverter that was so quiet that you barely heard it. Cost a bit more though. Now I have a cheap one that makes more noise. Sizing is important also, to work better with multiple rooms.
   I built a house back 25 years ago. Never had ac, just ceiling fans. As the climate changed we added 2 window units to cool it. Now I can't imagine life without one. The new house will have central ac. Our heat wave is coming next week with temps in the 90's f to at or near 100 f most of the week.(32c to 37c) 😅

Yeah sash windows aren't that common in the UK unfortunately. We normally have casement windows. The older Edwardian and Victorian ones do though.

Why not a portable A/C? Looks like a small tower, often on wheels. A hose for the airflow.

Yeah, it's an option but they are bulky things and the heat is usually short lived so it means storing something large that gets in the way all the time and yet is only used occasionally. Next week for example it's back to normal June temps so it would have to be packed away again.

It's far easier to just moan on endlessly about the heat and annoy everyone🤣🤣

Managed to do some work today, still 28c but D said it was 38C yesterday. Good breeze blowing through the flat now, that will chase the stale hot air away.

Still very breezy and much cooler, low 20sC . Mum visit first then I need to clean and paint the servo unit, hoping the penetrating oil has worked on the rear brake drums so I can remove them.
 It wont be long before the Blues festival in town, think its 3 weeks. Just hope its a dry weekend with all the open stages, it gets crowded in the pubs and bars. I will be using the correct rest rooms, the ladies!

Well got the one drum off, the other is a right **** and rusted fast to 1/2 shaft. It will come off, just dont want to damage it as the other side is mint.
  D has a load of runner beans that he didnt sell so I had 4 trays and took them to mum, she had enough canes to make 2 wigwam frames. I cleaned the weeds up and mum planted them then I gave them a good water in. Mum had already given me a small courgette and 4 cherry tomatoes, looking forward to some runner beans!
