Quote from: Stottie Girl on March 26, 2026, 05:10:08 AMCan't wait to get in my new house as the back garden is 3x bigger. Definitely going to plant a Rhubarb patch and a Bramley apple tree. Can't beat apple and Rhubarb Crumble!

It was raw rhubarb dipped in sugar fresh from my grandmothers rhubarb patch when I was a kid. I'm not sure I would do it now though. She did make amazing crumble with it. And custard.

Yeah, used to do that myself I remember it being really nice. Not tried that since I was a kid.

I top dress clay soil with compost made out of fall leaves and grass clippings.

Easter hams went on sale today.  I bought a Carando boneless spiral ham for $13 at $3.50/lb. I hunted around for the smallest one they had on sale.
Also bought some Key West shrimp and a shallot.  It makes sense to buy small quantities of produce so it doesn't spoil before you can use it all.

Do you have golf on your schedule this weekend Marion?

Not yet, as it is cold and wet, though some courses have recently opened.

Have lots of fun this season golfing!  What does a round (18 holes or 9 holes) cost?  Do you walk or get a golf cart?  Does your bag roll easily or do you carry it?  Do you keep a full set of clubs in the bag or just a select few?

I need to get back out on the golf course this year. I haven't played for over two years after I tore the ligaments in my wrist trying to hack out of the rough!

I know you weren't asking me but I've always walked and carried my clubs. You end up walking so much further if you have a trolley. I carry a full set.

My local course green fees are now £45.00 for non members in the summer. Golf is not a cheap sport!

I plan to sign up for Senior membership at a course that will allow me to play during weekdays for $550 a year.

I learned to play with just five clubs on a 9 hole executive course.  I found another cheap course last year and learned how to swing my driver for good distance and accuracy. I also started playing anywhere between 18 and 44 holes last year, walking the course with a push cart for my clubs.

I had a fitting and bought half a set of clubs.  Over the years I've inexpensively bought clubs on eBay and rebuilt them to fit me.  I have a lot of wedges for different course conditions.  Most of the time I play with a full set of clubs but sometimes I'll play with a half set.

Are you new to it Marion?

I sort of learned to play wandering around a country cours with my dad when I was about 3-4! He bought an old putter and 3 iron with hickory shafts and sawed them down to fit! I played off and on ever since though I've only been a member once. I like to go on the grand tour rather than just play one course. ha ha! I've got the same beat up old clubs I got when I was in my twenty's! Still work.

My father used to play every week and a taught me the social rules of golf.  But I too uncoordinated for him to teach me how to play. I learned how to read greens and putt the ball.  My balance wasn't good enough for riding a bike when I was in my early 50s so I bought a 3 speed Schwinn tricycle!  But it got a lot better after I started wearing high heels!    I did some searching and discovered that not only was there a nearby executive course, but I could also play from the Forward Tees.

I worked on a back friendly golf swing so I could play golf when I retired.   That took one season.
The next season I worked on making good contact with my irons off the fairway.
Then I learned how to hit my wedges and make birdies on short Par 3s.
Last year I figured out how to hit driver off the tee!  Got my first birdie on a 300 yard Par 4!

Marion,

You have made a nice set of accomplishments.

I hear that in Japan, golf fees are high because of the limited land.

Have a good golfing season!

The new golf course is quite playable with my current driving distance.  I made my first Par of the season on a 150 yard Par 3 with a swing that rolled onto the green and making a very long 2 putt!

It has short Par 5s that I can reach in three. As well as wide fairways for keeping driver in play.

The downside to having mid-back length hair is a slow shower drain.  Yesterday I took out the drain trap and ran a 25ft snake to clean out the hair.  There were two clogs, the 2nd clog at 10ft was much bigger and needed a lot of work to take out.  I also bought a Lekeye shower stall drain protection which had good reviews on stopping hair clogs.

Sorry Marion, I didn't see your reply until now. Yeah it's a special thing getting your first birdie, congrats! The pro's make it look easy but it really isn't!

I think it's often harder to birdie a par 4 than a par 5. I'm not even sure I could make the green in two anymore, I used to be a reasonably big hitter (300+ yards) but growing boobs makes my swing feel awkward, I think I will have to go back to the range some day and get comfortable with a slight difference in swing again. I have a grip problem too following an injury.

Have you holed in from a bunker yet? That's a great feeling!

Still waiting for my illusive albatross though! I've seen rookies fluke that but I've never managed it.

Dawn Kellie

I managed an ace with my dad there. 90ish yard par 3. 1 bounce and in the hole. I still have the ball. I haven't played in about 8 years. Two shoulder surgeries and an up coming knee has kept me off the fairway
