An Open Letter to the GLBT Community:

We leaders of Episcopal congregations in Buffalo want to offer our apology and ask forgiveness from the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community. For centuries the institutional church and organized religion have slandered, tortured, disenfranchised and sometimes murdered members of the community. We ask forgiveness for using our Sacred Scriptures to wrongly justify hatred, bigotry, prejudice and violence against those of different affectional orientation and gender identification, both in the past and, unfortunately, still today.

I'm shocked. I checked outside for the pink flying elephant, but none appeared.

Maybe there's some hope for this world...

Now if only we could get the rest of the churches, mosques, temples, synagogues... to recognise us.

There are a number of denominations that are supportive of the LGBT family in Buffalo.  Out support group meets in the Presbyterian church on Delaware Avenue.  The Unitarian church holds many functions for our communiyt.

I don't think it's too unusual for churches to support the LGBT family, however I think it's significant that one has apologized for ignoring us.

There may just be hope yet!

Lotsa church denominations and individual congregations support and invite LTBG participants -- as far as I know not just for the 'animal' sacrifices either!!
