Yes. There are too many requests for voluntary tipping

Yes. There are too many tip-like mandatory "service charges" at restaurants
1 (12.5%)
Yes, tip requests are of excessive percentages and it's harder with "check out tablet paying" to avoid tipping
3 (37.5%)
No, because many owners do not pay a reasonable wage and tips are counted on for living expenses
1 (12.5%)
No, I can always easily decide what and when to tip without any pressure
2 (25%)
No, I have always tipped regardless of what I knew about worker's wages.
0 (0%)
I do not know either way because in our society tipping is usually not expected.

Quote from: Charlotte Kitty on May 02, 2026, 11:29:15 AMI never tipped when i was in the US...i bet they hated me. But unless its on the receipt included i cant claim it back on my work expenses and wasn't going to pay out of my pocket!

Most receipts have a blank line where you can write how much you left as a tip, in case you left cash on the table for "table rent". Here, most employers accept that for reimbursement as long as the tip is reasonable. Claiming you left a $100 tip for a $30 meal might raise some eyebrows.

If a tip is automatically added, it cannot be claimed by the employee as income subject to the "no tax on tips" legal annual USA limit.  A payment machine or bill can suggest a tip but the spirit of a tip is that it is a reward voluntarily given by the patron.  Thus a forced tip is not voluntary, it becomes a cost of the meal or service.  Hence those would be 100% taxable to the employee receiving that forced tip.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.
