If you find a cone shaped seashell on the beach or in water, be very, very careful as you may become a victim of a surprise bite that can be very toxic. The shell may even appear to be dry and uninhabited, so before touching down make sure it is empty and safe.
Because of their beautiful and colorful shells, cone snails may attract collectors. Handling them is extremely risky, as they can deliver a sting that penetrates gloves or wetsuits.
It is advisable to admire these shell creatures from a safe distance!
