The highest (above sea level) tunnel in the United States is on Interstate 70.
It is the Eisenhower Tunnel.  At its west end, it is above 11,100 feet above sea level.

It is also the longest tunnel in the Interstate highway system.

There is a town named North Pole in Alaska with a big Christmas goods store.  It is still rather far from the magnetic North Pole.

There are lots of mosquitoes in Alaska.

It is not the state insect.  The state insect of Alaska is the four-spotted skimmer dragonfly. 

Dragonflies are predatory insects and have a diet of flying insects such as mosquitoes, butterflies, midges, moths, and bees.  Some larger dragonflies are known for eating other dragonflies.

The world's largest chile pepper is supposedly at the Big Chile Inn located is Las Cruces, New Mexico.  It is red.

Interstate Route 99

This interstate was named after a street car number 99.

Is oddly placed based on the standard Interstate number system.  Interstate 99 breaks the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) numbering pattern associated with Interstate Highways, as it would be expected to lie east of I-97; but, instead it lies east of I-79 and west of I-81.

I-99 is located in two segments, in Pennsylvania and New York.


Hawaii's interstates have unique identifiers.  All four are on the same island.

Interstate in Hawaii?
All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.
To thine own self be true.
Out to self since March 5, 2026. My wife knows it all since June 23.

There are interstate highways in Alaska and Puerto Rico.

They are not necessarily built to typical Interstate standards or are signed with typical Interstate signage.

The four Alaska Interstate roads can be undivided two lane roads.

I think she was referring to the term "interstate," which means "between states" or "connecting states." That is hard to do from Hawaii to... anywhere. Same for Alaska and Puerto Rico, as you stated.
