There's been a huge spike in british nationals leaving the UK too. Immigration is high though so the population is staying flat. Could be that the make up of the UK is changing, Could be immigrants who applied for uk citizenship going back where they came from of course, the figures don't give enough data.

I'm one of those immigrants! I'm doing everything I can to skew the numbers by immigrating into, out of, and now  back into the UK! 🤣

OK, what? Devlyn, I'd like more details if and when they're available, please.

You put your left foot in, your left foot out, in out, in out, you shake it all about!

The UK is a big melting pot and really always has been. As long as people embrace what it means to be british and live by the same values I don't have a problem. It's why we have such fantastic world cuisine for one!

Devlyn is such a rebel. She is trying to get her name in every country's census records. Some people collect "Likes" on Facebook. Dev is a bit different.

I'm a US citizen. I met an English girl here on Susan's in 2017, we met in person in Boston in 2018. In 2019 we were married and I applied for a UK visa. I lived there for four and a half years and then she was promoted and transferred to Barcelona. We spent a few years there on a highly skilled visa route. Now she's going to another company back in the UK, so I'm in the process of applying for another UK visa. Maybe this time I'll hit the five year mark and get British citizenship. Probably not. 🙂

Enjoy your time back in the U.K.  Heard they are now requiring the electronic travel authorization (ESA) for travelers.  Maybe not for incoming "residents."   Check this out though.

I heard that Spain is generally a safe place to live.  You think so Devlyn?

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

I have an ETA already. Spain is very safe. In our neighborhood families are out on the streets after the evening meal just walking and socialising.

Thank you, @Devlyn! I hope the move goes very smoothly.

Would you have preferred to stay in Spain?

I hope you do, Dev. I hope the state of the world doesn't stop you from being happy. I am wishing you both the best, honey. Nothing would make me happier than having you as one of my countrywomen. :)

I should warn you, though. People do not tend to buy takeout fish and chips these days. The prices are exorbitant. Unless you're a tourist from the US.

Yeah it's gone from a poor mans staple when I was a kid to an occasional expensive treat now. Mad how expensive fish is here. We're on a bloody island it should be cheap as chips (pun intended!)

Thanks everyone! We would have liked to stay in Spain, but my motto has always been "Go where life takes you."

Newer members may not know what Lauren does; when I was in the UK before I worked in a chippy and then at Wilko up until they went into receivership. I'm more British than a lot of Brits! 🤣

I need to get fish and chips Thursday before I go. Friday is fish and chip day, so queues are very long.

I usually buy a large fish and chips then share between us. I have peas and he has curry sauce. I miss living in Leeds though as I could get spam fritters there! Cheap and yummy.

When it was slow at the chippy we'd deep fry everything. Mars bars, Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels, Club, Penguins...all of it.
