I have always enjoyed hiking.
When I was much younger and living in California, we summited all of the highest peaks in Southern CA. Our longest hike was 53 miles in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It took 8 days. There were 12 of us total, with 3 adults. We did a lot of training hikes before that trip, climbing some rugged trails, but it was fun.
Here in Colorado, I summited Pikes Peak twice (once in high school and once in the Army). Also Long's Peak and another that I don't recall the name.
In South Dakota, it was more purposeful. My hiking was to prospect mining locations away from places that the locals frequent. As I got older, my hikes grew shorter, and now I just can't do like I used to.
But I'm not done yet. Summer is coming, and I will be back up in the mountains in search of the shiny.
