Quote from: Lori Dee on November 04, 2025, 06:44:24 PMI saw a Roadrunner today. My neighbor says he has seen it out there several times and thinks it lives on his land.

I hadn't seen one since I was a kid growing up in the Mojave Desert. They are fun to watch.

I saw a roadrunner in Arizona.

Little egret seen by a pond again on way to Fleetwood.  60 years ago when I was a kid you'd never believe they'd be seen often in Lancashire.

Sometimes birds fly into windows and glass doors.  Sad.  Usually they will die unless it was a glancing blow.  I gather they see their reflection and fly towards it.

We get these gray cranes with red heads. They're call sand hill cranes. They make that eerie sound you hear in the movies showing swamps. They walk around our pasture and yard. The sound can be shocking in the middle of the night

I like owls.  They can be a real hoot.

Yeah we get them regularly up here now, they are nesting alongside the Herons I think. Never saw them growing up. Lovely birds. I saw my first great egret in Scotland last year.

We had positive sightings of white tailed eagles fishing off the coast a few weeks back. That would be awesome if they became a regular visitor.

My honey is raising chickens and a couple ducks. She's got about 20 chickens
Does that count

If you find an empty parking space under a tree and come back to find your car a big mess from bird droppings, now you know why there was that empty parking space.

I love birds! I'm hoping to become an ornithologist one day. I'm still in college for it. If you don't already have it, you should get the app merlin! It's great for bird ID when your just starting out as well as keeping track of your life list!

Best,
Maven :)

Ring necked parakeets seen in my area. Used to see them in Hyde Park when I lived in London and at Oakley Court, site of the old Hammer horror films

They are becoming wide spread now. I see them a lot in my local reserve and they are in the city parks too. I know they aren't native but I like seeing them.

I heard the loud drum of a pileated woodpecker while playing golf today.  They like forests with decaying trees.

My mum and dad have a great spotted woodpecker that visits their garden every day. The UK only has two, the great spotted and the green. I've never seen a green woodpecker.

We have 3,theres a lesser spotted Woodpecker which I haven't seen. It looks like a small great spotted Woodpecker. Seen a green Woodpecker at Leighton Moss bird reserve.

Forgot about the lesser spotted, not seen one of those either!

Is Leighton Moss any good? I'm within an hour and a half of it give or take. About the same as a trip to Bempton Cliffs. Not done that before either but I want to rectify that this year. I normally go to local reserves, The Farnes and St Abbs Head. I love Gannets, Guilimots and Puffins so the sea cliffs are great.

I fancy trying a trip to Bass Rock sometime too.

I get a redheaded woodpecker that like to try and go through our porch. Sounds like automatic weapons fire.

I do enjoy seeing all the birds when I'm out in the woods. There's a good amount of birds flying around. 🐦
