Well, today was a bust. The weather was sunny and hot. We made it out to the property and drove to the far side of the acreage. We grabbed our metal detectors and hiked down into the dry creek bed. According to my watch, we walked 1.7 miles, swinging a metal detector, climbing up rock faces to check caves in the limestone, then back down into the creek bed. It was a long day, and not a single coin was found, not even a modern penny. But we did find some shotgun shell casings, .38 and .22 casings, lots of beer cans, barbed wire, and glass shards. The adjoining property has a lot of antique farming equipment lying around, from a tractor, threshing machine, plow, and a couple I didn't recognize, but I'm not a farmer; my parents were.
In addition to over a mile and a half of creek bed, we also walked the other half of the property (20 acres of the 40-acre lot). In the creek, I found four green stones that appear to be Amazonite, which is native to this area. But I need to clean them up and do some tests to confirm. If confirmed, they will go into the rock tumblers for polishing.
