Yeah but the thing is... I kind of have faith in the people of the US. He got put in, again, by a misguided bunch of cultists, but your country is governed by the people who live there. And ultimately it's the people who have the final say in any sort of democratic state.

He doesn't give a crap about the constitution. That doesn't mean no one does. You aren't all dumb enough to let lightning strike in the same place three times. He is just a bloke.

Thanks... I think. 🙂
The problem is, even though the Constitution forbids a third term, he's talked since day one of his second term about finding a way around that. While it seems impossible, it also seemed impossible that he'd get elected when he first ran in 2016. Emperor Don I has enough loyal subjects that are willing to blatantly disregard the laws of our country in order to get him what he wants.

Ok I'll stop now. Sorry for hogging your blog, @Lori Dee. I usually make it a point to not engage in political discussions online.

Lori, we have plenty of room. While camping can be fun for a few days, a blizzard can definitely ruin the experience. As Tom Bodett always used to say, 'we'll leave a light on for you'.

Happy Easter, everyone!

My Easter tradition is to watch the 1973 film Jesus Christ Superstar. Since I only watch it once a year, it is an emotional event for me.

Many people are familiar with the stage production. When the movie first came out, I was working at my first job at a movie theater in Loveland, CO. The theater's projectionist had joined the Navy and agreed to teach me how to run the projectors before he left.

Just as I was fairly confident that I knew what I was doing, this movie came out, and the theater ran two showings a day for a week. I watched it 27 times back then, so I know every note and lyric of every song.

I love the music (lots of twanging guitars), and the vocal talent is top-notch. What some people don't know is revealed in the DVD's Bonus Materials. There is a short audio-only interview with the Director, Norman Jewison, and lead actor, Ted Neeley (Jesus).

The film was made on-location in the ruined temples of the Negev Desert. In an area where it had not rained in ages, a storm blew up during the crucifixion scene. The film crew panicked due to gale-force winds; they had to scramble to secure equipment and get everyone to safety. Ted Neeley was up on the cross and could not get down without help. Voices on the radios were yelling to get him down.

Ted Neeley says that it was a very spiritual moment for him, and he thanked the Director for taking care of him afterward.

Neeley wrote that during filming of the crucifixion, the cast felt as if they were walking the path Christ took and cried at Neeley's performance on the cross.

I have never been a fan of musicals, but this is one of my all-time favorite movies. My aunt was part of a theater group that performed it, but I prefer this movie version.

I really enjoy Fiddler on the Roof. It is also moving.

That reminds me of a playground song in the UK back in the 80's along the lines of "Jesus Christ, Superstar, came down from heaven on a Yamaha......." I won't complete it as it may be disrespectful on Easter Monday!

I have no idea if the tune (obviously not the words) was in the musical or not. I cannot stand musicals or Opera (which is just historical musicals). As someone who grew up in and around the theatre and showbiz you would think I would be ok with it but no, it drives me up the walls!

I am generally the same. However, this is a Rock Opera, and I really like the music. In some musicals, it just seems weird to me that at some point in the story, people just start singing and dancing all over the place for no apparent reason. It just seems... unnatural?

In this movie, as in opera, the lines are sung rather than spoken, but the dancing is all done in context (i.e., adoration of Jesus). So it makes sense to me.

I also like that the Director said the point was never to say, "This is what happened," or to offend anyone's religious beliefs. The point was to showcase each of the main characters and their personalities, then show how they interacted with one another and how that might have looked during that time period.

To achieve that, he kept the actors in separate groups so they would not interact off-set. Jesus' followers were kept away from the Jewish priests and Roman soldiers. Then, when they met to deliver their lines, there was a genuine feel of "who is this?" Then he captured that dynamic on location where these events took place 2,000 years ago.

For me, it was not about religion. It was about seeing the characters, understanding their roles, and why they acted as they did in ancient times. And to emphasize that, the Director shows the theater group arriving in the desert by bus. You see them getting into costume and into character. The scaffolding and things that show it is clearly a stage are not hidden. That is the point.

I literaly have no clue even of the story never mind able to critique it! I have sat through Little Shop of Horrors and Rocky Horror and hated them both! Everyone is different though and there are plenty people who love them so I must be an outlier! Actually there is one I liked - The Blues Brothers.

To be perfectly honest I barely know what happened in the real story of Jesus! I've never been to a church service other than a wedding and one christening oh and funerals. I'm so going to burn in hell ha ha! My only saving grace is that I do remember the Lords Prayer as school kids had to recite it in assembly every morning! I don't think they do that anymore.

I can boil Jesus story down real easy.
He came to save humanity, knowing he would die by human hands. He taught a ministry of love and understanding. The Jewish people wanted him to throw out the romans.his select few learned his ways. He was betrayed by one of his own to the Jewish elders. Convinced of religious crimes. The romans were told he was insiting revolution. The romans crucified him. Which is a horrendous way to die. His followers went out and started teaching his ways. All this was predicted by the old testament

Very short and jumps a lot of stuff.

Well obviously I knew the basics but the detail? Nada. I can only name 5 disciples and one of them is Judas! I had better not display my ignorance much more than I already have!

The story plot is described in the wiki link I posted above, if you want to check it out. I think it is a great movie for people who don't know the details because it can't counter any pre-conceived ideas about the characters.

But I understand that some people have no interest in such subjects, so no pressure.

No Kellie, very kind of you to offer but I'm being lighthearted.

I am not a follower of any religion, though at school we were kind of forced to observe christian practises. I am neither christened nor baptised. My parents wanted me to make my own choice. I am still yet to do so!

I have just received a couple of books on buddhism as I am very intrigued about it, it's the closest I have been to finding something. I have been to three different monasterys in the UK. I used to repair gas fires in meditation huts at a one near me and know the deputy abbot!

Christianity? No, not for me I'm afraid. I love visiting churches and cathedrals and am in awe of them architecturally but they do not move me spiritually.

I think we should leave the theology discussions for another thread. Sorry Lori, this is meant to be your blog!
