The Liberty Hotel — a five-star Boston hotel that lied about removing a lesbian couple from a women's restroom after mistaking one of the women for a man — reached a settlement with the couple by guaranteeing to update its nondiscrimination training and policies and donate $10,000 to an LGBTQ+ organization.

In early May, a security guard entered one of the hotel's women's restrooms and demanded that Ansley Baker exit a stall, accusing her of being a man and forcing her to show ID to prove her gender. While escorting Baker and her partner out of the restroom, other women waiting in line for the facilities called Baker "a creep" and demanded that she be ejected from the hotel, which the guard did. The hotel later lied, claiming that Baker and her partner had used the same stall together — the couple denied the accusation.

On Monday, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) announced a settlement, requiring the hotel to donate $10,000 to an LGBTQ+ organization, update its nondiscrimination training and policies, and post a nondiscrimination statement in its lobby, GO MAG reported.

In a statement, MCAD said the couple were "stereotyped, harassed, and removed."

"This outrageous incident at the Liberty Hotel left these two women emotionally shaken, humiliated, and deeply distressed," MCAD Chairwoman Sunila Thomas George said. "They were denied services, subjected to demeaning treatment in front of other patrons of the hotel, and falsely accused of actions they did not commit, which is not only degrading, but unjust according to Massachusetts civil rights law."
