Hi everyone!
I'm 22, nonbinary (they/them), and honestly... I already love this forum so much. You all seem so kind, supportive, and real it's kinda refreshing? I've been reading your posts for a while and thinking, "wow, people here actually care about each other." So, um... hi! I'm happy to be here 💛
A little about me: I recently finished my gender transition process or well, the medical part of it. Emotionally I think I'll be transitioning forever, haha. Life feels exciting and scary at the same time. I moved to Berlin not long ago because I thought it'd be easier here for queer people... and to be fair, the vibes are amazing, but figuring out healthcare is another story.
Since transitioning, I need regular medical check-ups, hormone monitoring, and just a doctor who understands what the heck is going on in my body. The problem is... I'm kinda broke. Like, "trying to stretch pasta for three days" broke. Every doctor I find seems super expensive, and I'm panicking a little because I really need someone to follow up with me.
I did find this site that matches you with clinics based on insurance and income which sounds magical on paper

But I'm scared it's still gonna be way out of my price range. It looks great, but you know how the internet can be.
So I wanted to ask the wonderful humans here:
Does anyone know a queer friendly doctor or endocrinologist in Berlin who isn't insanely expensive? Someone who actually listens and won't treat me like a medical mystery?
I'm trying really hard to take care of myself properly now. I'm only 22, I want to do things right — and I kinda feel like this forum is the first place where I'm not totally embarrassed to ask.

I wish I had any guidance to offer regarding care in Berlin, but that's way outside the realm of my experience. Others may come along and have suggestions for you.

But I still wanted to respond to say that I'm glad you jumped in and asked your question. There's nothing to be embarrassed about. You are most definitely not alone.

The good news about German healthcare

If you're enrolled in public health insurance (*gesetzliche Krankenversicherung*—the statutory kind most residents qualify for), hormone therapy and related monitoring are covered.

Once you have documentation from your transition, ongoing hormone treatment doesn't require separate pre-approval—it's treated like any other medication. Your biggest task is finding a GP or endocrinologist who accepts public insurance and *gets it*.

• Schwulenberatung Berlin 🔗 [Link: schwulenberatungberlin.de] – They have a comprehensive guide called "Transitioning in Berlin" and can point you toward specific providers. Their Inter*Trans* counseling team knows the landscape well.
• nonbinary.berlin – Lists resources specifically for nonbinary folks including ViroPraxis (trans medicine, sexual health) and Casa Kuà (health center by and for trans* and nonbinary people, especially those affected by racism).
• Queer Leben 🔗 [Link: https/queere-​jugend-​berlin.de/location/queer-​leben/] – Counseling center for trans*, inter*, and nonbinary people of all ages. Good for navigating the system.

About being broke: If you're not yet on public insurance, that's the first priority—it opens doors. If you're already enrolled and still hitting cost walls, the counseling centers above can help you understand what should be covered and how to push back if claims get denied.

That clinic-matching site you found might be legit—Queermed and similar services do exactly that. It is definately worth exploring.

You deserve a doctor who sees you as a whole person, not a puzzle. They exist in Berlin. Keep asking, keep advocating for yourself, and lean on this community when it gets exhausting.
