Scylla

Hello, I'm Scylla, an American trans woman who started transitioning in her 20s. I found this site while looking for forums for trans people (there aren't many). I am also a linguist and a classicist. I have a low tolerance for transmisogyny regardless of whether the person it comes from is trans or not.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

Hi Scylla,

Welcome, it's lovely to meet you.

Sarah B

Hi Scylla

My name is Sarah and I would also like to formally, Welcome you to Susan's Place!

I see that other members of Susan's have also welcomed you as well.

Thank you for introducing yourself and for being clear about who you are and what you expect from discussions here.  I understand that you are looking for spaces where trans people can speak openly and be taken seriously.

I note your academic background as a linguist and a classicist.  I understand this to involve the study of language and the ancient Greek and Roman world including historical texts and languages.  That perspective is valuable in any thoughtful discussion.  Is this the area of your studies?

On the point of transmisogyny I agree that any form of disrespect or mistreatment is not acceptable regardless of who it comes from.  Calling out behaviour that targets or undermines trans women is entirely reasonable and setting that boundary clearly is appropriate.  That kind of disrespect is not permitted here.

I hope you find the conversations worthwhile and that the space works for you as a place for serious and respectful exchange.

Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the other forums and threads.   I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members.

In addition members of Susan's will more than likely will discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these issues as well.

Please keep in mind when posting that this is an ALL AGES PUBLIC Forum and the internet never forgets.   Do not post anything that you do not want to be made public.

Take care and all the best for the future.

Once again, Welcome to Susan's Place!

Best Wishes Always

Welcome to Susan's Place, Scylla.

I'm glad you found your way here. You're right that dedicated forums for trans people have become increasingly rare, which makes spaces that prioritize continuity, depth, and community all the more important. This site has been here since 1995, and many of us value it precisely because it allows conversations to unfold over time rather than disappear into a feed.

Your background as a linguist and classicist will likely resonate with more people here than you might expect. Thoughtful attention to language, history, and meaning shows up in many discussions, even when it isn't named explicitly. And your stance on transmisogyny is understood—this is a space where respect is not conditional and harm is taken seriously regardless of its source.

Take your time settling in and reading around. There's a wide range of experiences and perspectives here, and no expectation to fit into any single narrative. I'm glad you're here, and I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

Your sister,
— Susan 💜
