Softer hair from estrogen?

Hi everyone. I'm just interested. I guess this was a change I started HRT young enough to notice. I think my scalp hair became softer. The strands are a little finer but the overall fullness of it is alot more. I also noticed it even became a little lighter in color.

In comparison to my brother his hair is a little darker and coarser. He has thicker strands than me but he's definitely losing his hair at the top.

I do take biotin supplements and use rogaine so I think that definitely makes a difference, but is hair one of the things that changes on estrogen? Has anybody else noticed a change in their hair? (provided you still have it.)

Yes hair does change on estrogen.  Years ago I remember reading that head hair has a different shape when it comes to males and females because of estrogen and testosterone.  And testosterone also produces a byproduct that causes the follicles to shrink over time and go dormant.  Over the last 4 years I've found my hair has changed, plus I don't sweat like I used too, so it's not as stiff or coarse feeling after a day of work before showering.  My hair has always been fine, but on estrogen it has filled in rather nicely and I'm able to pull of some 1940's hairstyles quite nicely that other women wish they could pull off with shoulder length hair.

I also use biotin and collagen and my hairdresser is always amazed at how long my hair has grown in the six to eight weeks between balayages, when I also get it trimmed to cut off split ends.  She also can't believe how silky it is, even when I've forgotten to to use conditioner on it.  Split ends, that's a real killer to hair growth, like a plant or tree that has dead branches and you don't prune them and it causes your tree to not grow or turn brown.

Well, estrogen does change hair on every other part of the body, so why not on the scalp?  I can't say that I've noticed this effect myself, but then my hair always was exceptionally fine.  It's hard to imagine it getting any finer, but these days if a strand hangs over my face, I can't see it.  I thought it was just my vision getting old, but it could be that the hair is just too fine to see.

Hmm, maybe that explains why it is so thin on top.  It's probably still there, just to fine to see.  Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!  😄

Can't say I've noticed any change particularly. My hair is still blonde as it always was and it is still ultra fine, dead straight and annoyingly resistant to styling! I haven't receeded or gone bald and I still have no grey hairs at 50 which isn't too bad a result. I have no idea if it would have been different when not on estrogen.

I have always had lots of top of the head hair.

On other parts of the body my hair seems lighter and thinner.
Is it softer?  Perhaps, but maybe because it is less dense.

I just swished my hair side to side.  For some reason, occasionally I just like to do that.
