Great pics, Sarah!

I am no fan of unruly children or pets either. Many times, I have gone hiking in the forest to get away from the city noise and smog, only to have the peace and quiet demolished by screaming kids and barking dogs. And the adults stand around like they can't hear it.

Maybe they can't. Maybe all that noise made them deaf.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Belsay Hall. It's a favourite half-way lunch stop on my way up to Scotland to see my family. I love the Quarry Garden. But I've never been there on a Saturday.

And I do love croquet. It appears to be a very gentile game but it can get vicious|!

Yeah it can be an wickedly vicious devious game at times, I really like it.

Don't get me wrong Christina, I have been many many times before and loved it. You used to be able to chat to all the gardeners and they would tell you about what they were doing and give you tips etc. All the plants used to have labels etc. But I truly hate what they've done to the place. We weren't the only ones either, a few of the older generation commented on it as well.

English Heritage is catering for kids family days now as that is where they think the money is,maybe they're right. But they are going to alienate the actual gardeners who loved to go there. The National Trust does things way better. I'd far rather go round Wallington or Cragside, or Crook Hall in Durham.

I've not been for a few years and the gardens were massively disapointing this year. All fully planted out but barely any colour anywhere. Large sections of it seemed to be given over to wild planting. I mean, I love a wildflower meadow but not at the expense of the ornamental gardens. Maybe it's just a temporary blip and it might return to normal in future years, I don't know. I suspect they've sacked the estate gardeners and brought in some middle class fartie landscape architect who told them that wilding was the way forward! It's only twenty minutes from where I live so I've been so many times through my life, this is the first time I left with a sour taste in my mouth.

In the 1960s I had a summer holiday job mowing the lawns at Wallington Hall. It was a never-ending job!
We used to live in a village nearby. I haven't been back for years.

You'll remember the gargolyles on the lawn near the road then maybe?

Sounds like quite the place, or that it was in the past. I used to love gardening but it had become too much alongside life's many obligations. I still enjoy a pretty garden tho.

Yeah I like to maintain a garden, I need to have that chill space to unwind and destress from time to time.

I'm not sure if it's the hormones but I am seriously considering buying a Fiat 500 for my next car. They are totally impractical for the life I lead but damn they are so cute and girly! It would be one hell of a change from my Volvo XC60!

Good news on the home front, the land registry information has arrived and we are trying to decide on a date for the move. I think it could be imminent, like within a fortnight. I had a heart stopping moment where I looked around at all the chaos around me and realised that I still have so much to do! I really shouldn't be wasting time on here in fact but, well, I just can't be bothered tonight ha ha! Manyana!

I've received a delivery of some new brown suede ankle boots and light tan suede sandals. Things are looking up!

Edit: Huh? "I just can't be xxx tonight", the "A" word was removed? You Americans are too polite to survive in Northern England ha ha! :)

I must say that's quite some effect of the E to make you want a Fiat 500 lol. I'm wondering if I should be worried about whats to come!

Glad the house stuff is finally moving and sure you'll get everything sorted. It's always a bit of a mad rush at the end, but at least after you can chill.

Enjoy your new boots too.

We need to remember that people of all ages come here. We are just trying to keep things more ladylike.

Aye. I also got bleeped a couple of times, but it actually is good practice to talk more ladylike, as @Lori Dee suggested 👩🏻

I can talk prim and proper when I want to. I used to have to work with the landed gentry and minor nobilities. I had to talk with a plum in my mouth to be understood! Actually I wonder if when I sort my voice training out I should aim for a Jane Austen type sense and sensibility accent!

And whats this "Aye" all about? Are you a secret geordie Val? lol!

Aw come on, they are sooo cute. I mean the new version not the classic car. Those interiors are so girly! In a perfect world I would keep my big volvo for going to more remote semi offroad places or for long distance travel but the little fiat could be my cute little city runabout! You can but dream!

It would be totally impractical to only own the fiat unfortunately.
