To be fair to the Hunter Shayler character every single female in the show, and some males, seems to be on the receiving end of violence and often sexual and drug violence. So she's being treated as no different from any other woman. In some ways she's one of the most empowered characters.
But the show is just very sexual and sexually violent. I find it quite problematic that it's produced by older people, mostly men, and acted by people in their twenties all pretending to be teenagers. That feels quite abusive.
There's also no humour or chinks of light to relieve the unremitting thuggery in marked contrast to a show like The White Lotus. In some ways actually Hunter Shayler's character is the exception: a character of integrity and is immensely likeable.
Meanwhile, here's a YouTube Top 10 Transgender Characters on TV. There have actually been quite a few and some really positive role models:

The problem isn't the younger generations who are pretty used to us by now, and mostly accepting. It's the old gammons. And note just how their problem is almost always transgendered
women not transgendered men which tells us so much about their own insecurities and their attitudes to women full stop. Things
will change.
