This is something I have been thinking about, and I decided to post my thoughts on it.
I think that transgender people may be more spiritual than they realize. I am not talking about religious beliefs, but the attunement we have with our Inner Self.
If we consider what Spirit actually is, it will make more sense.
If you strip away the physical body (skin, bones, muscles, organs, etc.), what remains is the energy that flows throughout it. This is the Vital Life Force that keeps living things alive, as well as the signals to and from the brain and the various parts of the body, and even the kinetic and potential energy of those parts.
Just as the brain controls the physical body, the spirit form is controlled by the Consciousness. Consciousness is not the thinking part of the brain; it is the part that maintains the body without thought. It is the subconscious part of our mind that handles functions such as digestion, respiration, and healing injuries. As such, it knows every aspect of our physical body and how it functions.
When you consider that a newborn infant does not know anything about itself or its surroundings, yet it is still able to breathe, digest, and heal itself, it becomes clear that the Spirit Within is very knowledgeable and wise.
Most people go through their entire lives without even thinking about spirituality, or think it has something to do with their religious beliefs. I believe it has more to do with being attuned to the spirit within us.
For transgender people, this attunement could sense that there is a mismatch between who they are and the physical body they inhabit. This may or may not be disturbing to them.
People have various sensitivities to temperature, sound, odors, flavors, and touch, which are all senses (signals interpreted by the brain). So too are people more or less sensitive to incongruence between their physical bodies and their Inner Self (the Consciousness or Awareness of who they are).
This could apply to anyone regardless of their religious beliefs or practices. Perhaps it is a way to help people understand what they are experiencing and enhance whatever their religious beliefs may be.
