Former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe has died aged 78. She became a pop culture figure after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother but has been regarded as an extreme opponent of LGBTQ+ equality.

There's now a murder investigation. The circumstances of her death may have changed, but the circumstances of her life have not.

I don't celebrate the death of anyone, as there are often innocent friends and family who are affected by it.

However, there are some that I will not consider a loss to society, and I will not mourn their passing.

I'm sorry but I find this a little bit distasteful.

Whatever her politics, the fact is a 78 year old woman was brutally murdered in her home by a 26 year old man.

I certainly did not agree with her world view but I fundamentally believe in her right to have her own opinion and in the freedom of speech. If you disagree with that opinion then champion your own opinion but turning to murder is not how a civilised society should sort out it's politics.

Did I like her? No, not at all. But I wouldn't wish that fate on anyone. Not even Trump.

To clarify, there was no mention of murder when I posted the article. I do not believe in revisionist history, so the post stays.

Edit to add: The young man is accused of murder. Let's wait for a verdict before stating any conclusions.

I know that the murder news came a lot later in the day to be fair but I still feel this sort of thing is a bit off. I HATED Margaret Thatcher for example but I thought all the "Ding Dong the witch is dead" stuff was really wrong. There was a lot of people doing that then, there will probably be a lot of people now, maybe I'm too soft.

That young man has been released without being charged and is no longer considered to be a person of interest in the case. This reinforces the principle of "innocent until proven guilty".

There is another arrest in the case, a different 28 year old man. This doesn't indicate any wrongdoing on the part of the police. Investigations are a moving, changing process. Interesting that there seems to be no shortage of young men eager to shuttle her off this mortal coil.

Oh there's no doubt she must have made a hell of a lot of enemies. As good proportion of the British public were not fans of the hate she used to preach. She was found with serious injuries so her final moments must have been terrifying. I would have liked her to retire from public life but not in this way!

It might not even have been politically motivated in all fairness it might have been a robbery gone wrong for all we know.
