LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream films continued a three-year decline last year, according to GLAAD's latest "Where We Are in Film" study. The study also showed particularly troubling results when it came to trans representation in film and any LGBTQ+ representation in family films.

This week, the LGBTQ+ media watchdog released the 2026 edition of its annual report on Hollywood's inclusion of queer characters, examining 2025 releases from the industry's 10 largest studio distributors — A24, Amazon MGM Studios, Apple TV+, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Skydance, Sony, The Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Of the 225 films the study tracked, GLAAD identified only 46 (20.4%) that featured LGBTQ+ characters, a more than 3% drop from 2024 and a more than 8% decline from 2023's high point of 28.5%.

Most troublingly, the 2026 study reported zero transgender characters in any of the 225 films, and zero LGBTQ+ characters in any animated or family films released by the 10 distributors last year. The lack of trans representation in mainstream movies comes amid the Trump administration's relentless efforts to roll back trans rights and visibility. And the absence of LGBTQ+ representation in animated and family films comes as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), under Chair Brendan Carr, is considering  introducing parental warning labels for LGBTQ+ content on TV.

I think you are missing the point of this forum. This is not a chatroom. This is a place of support for everyone in the LGBTQ Community. Our Terms of Service are clear that we are to treat one another with respect and dignity. This is a safe space for our members to get advice and support on a number of topics that affect us.

Therefore, if you post hate-driven conspiracy theories that falsely label public figures as transgender, or repeat these narratives — even framed as "just asking" — it will be treated as misinformation or harassment and moderated accordingly.

You are looking at what I'm posting as coming from a bad place...it's not

I've dated trans women before and I was an idiot who didn't accept it but now I do

I truly don't understand the "hate driven" posts - I'm a guy who says the moon landing was fake. None of what I says is from a place of "hate" - I will literally go to bat for anyone who is trans. At my own expense

I might post a few dumb messages but please don't act like I'm hateful - I'm not at all
