Keledraigh-Mara

Name: Mara (Lady Mara)
Age: 49
Pronouns: She/Her
Gender: Woman of Trans Experience
Sexuality: Lesbian / Sapphic
Location: Indiana, USA
About Me:
Hello everyone! I'm Mara, a 49-year-old woman who began her transition a little over a year ago. I work as a mental health nurse with adolescent girls and spend my nights helping young people navigate some of life's hardest challenges.
I am a proud mom, a lifelong geek, and someone who believes it's never too late to discover who you truly are.
Interests:
🐉 Dragons
🖤 Gothic and witchy aesthetics
📚 Spirituality, mythology, and philosophy
🎮 Fallout, Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and other RPGs
🎲 Board games, card games, and tabletop gaming
🎵 Ghost, Emilie Autumn, Blutengel, and other dark alternative music
💄 Learning makeup, fashion, and all the things I never let myself explore when I was younger
A Little More:
I'm naturally pretty shy and tend to listen more than I talk at first, but once I'm comfortable I can happily discuss anything from psychology and nursing to gaming, spirituality, worldbuilding, or dragons.
I came out later in life, so I'm still experiencing many "firsts" that most women got to have years ago. It's been a beautiful, challenging, and deeply meaningful journey.

Hi Mara,

Welcome!

Hiya Mara!

I'm Sarah, 50 from Northern England. I'm still negotiating the transition myself and enjoying every step of the way.

What a lovely introduction. I'm a lapsed gamer myself (haven't had a gaming pc or console for about 5 years) though there are many current gamers on here. Fallout and Skyrim are up there for me.

I'm a very shy person generally but Susans is gradually bringing me out of my shell.

Feel free to join in any conversation or start your own. It will be great to get to know more about you.

Nice to have you on board.

Sarah xx

This is something that I, and many other in here, can relate to.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

Hey Mara,
I'm Charlotte and welcome to Susan's. What card games do you play? I play some MTG and Vanguard with my boyfriend. And now he's introducing me to Palworld TCG. Its fun for sure!

Oh you love dragons too! They are awesome. My real dream is to transition to the Kitchen Dragonmaid from Yugioh, but unfortunately doubt that'll happen!! Also started watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.

You sound pretty cool. Are you a GTA fan?

I'm the same way. In social situations where I am new, I keep my mouth shut and just feel things out. But if I can connect with someone, I can't shut up. That's the way it goes when you suffered from social anxiety until the age of 29. (The same year that my egg cracked. Coincidence? Of course not.)

Cheers and welcome to the forum.

Hi Charlotte! 💜 It's lovely to meet you!
You definitely found one of my weak spots with the dragons. 😂🐉 I've loved dragons for as long as I can remember. There's just something about them that hits that perfect combination of magical, powerful, mysterious, and slightly dangerous.
As for card games, I'm definitely more of a general tabletop/card-game geek girl than a serious TCG player. I've dabbled in Magic a little, but I'm very much in the "trying to figure out what I'm doing" stage. 😂 I tend to bounce around between different board games, card games, tabletop stuff, and video games rather than being devoted to one particular game.
Most of my video gaming is RPG territory—Fallout, Cyberpunk 2077, SWTOR, etc.—so apparently I have a weakness for worlds where I can disappear into someone else's story for several hundred hours. 😆
I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh!, Vanguard, or the Palworld TCG, so you'll have to educate me on those!
And I have to admit, I haven't actually watched Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid yet. You've now given me another thing to put on the "Mara really needs to check this out" list. 😂 The Kitchen Dragonmaid dream sounds absolutely adorable, though. If becoming a Dragonmaid were a legitimate transition option, I suspect I'd at least have to investigate the application process. 🐉🖤
Which Dragonmaid is your favorite? And what do you enjoy most about Vanguard compared with MTG?

Thank you, Laura! 😊 And I definitely understand the "quiet until I find my people, then good luck shutting me up" phenomenon. 😂

I'm not really a GTA player, although I absolutely understand the appeal. My gaming tastes tend to wander more toward RPGs and worlds where I can disappear into the story—Fallout, Cyberpunk 2077, SWTOR, that sort of thing. Apparently I like having an entire fictional universe to get lost in. 😆

And yeah... I relate pretty strongly to the social anxiety part. I'm naturally pretty quiet when I'm somewhere new. I tend to observe, figure out the dynamics, and see where I fit before I really start talking. But once I find someone I connect with? Yeah, then the floodgates can open. 😂

And your "same year my egg cracked" comment made me laugh. Sometimes those things really do seem suspiciously connected. Maybe discovering who we actually are has a way of making it considerably easier to eventually find our voice, too.

Cheers, and thank you for the welcome! 🖤
