A remarkable 90% of LGBTQ+ organizations around the world have lost funding since January 2025, according to a new report released on Thursday from the LGBTQ+ advocacy group Outright International.

The report, entitled "Breaking Point: the Urgent Need to Invest in Global LGBTIQ Movements," details the devastating effects of the Trump administration's cuts to US foreign aid that once benefited LGBTQ+ organizations around the world.

"If there is a moment in time that the international LGBTIQ movement needs individuals' help, it is now," Alberto de Belaunde, one of the authors of the report, told the Bay Area Reporter. "This is the moment for empathy and for action, because the resources, the infrastructure, and the people we are losing because of these funding cuts are not going to come back if we don't fight for them to be preserved."

Founded in 1990, Outright International reports on the global LGBTQ+ human rights movement and funds grassroots LGBTQ+ organizations internationally. The organization suffered a funding loss of $10 million due to the Trump administration's abrupt closure of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in July 2025.

Of the 229 organizations that responded to Outright's survey, 203 reported funding cuts, the report reveals. Approximately 90% reported losing US funding since January 2025: 75% lost more than a quarter of their total budget, while 49% said they've lost more than half.

Of the organizations, 40% said they were at severe or immediate risk of closure in the next year, and close to half have reduced or cut HIV prevention, care, or treatment programs.

Countries where the LGBTQ+ community is least accepted were twice as likely to lose funding, the report found.

Just 4% of organizations reported financial stability.
