NYU Scientists Find Possible Cure for Gray Hair

By MICHAEL MURRAY, June 17, 2011

Gray hair is, along with premature balding, one of the greatest fears of image-conscious men and women everywhere, but it may soon be a thing of the past. Scientists at the Ito Lab at New York University's Langone Medical Center have identified the proteins that cause gray hair, which could lead to an eventual cure.

Kind regards

Sigh, as someone who started going grey at 15, it's way too late for me! I'll just stick with henna, I don't really want drugs in my shampoo.

Sorry this is so beat up.

The tyrosine kinase families are so common, complex, structured and linked that the newspaper stuff is over the top. The science is excellent. But the way the newspaper have jumped on it is the usual hyper- press crap.

I can assure you there will be shampoos available by the end of the week with WNT promoters. About $80 a go?.

On a funny side when I worked for a start up BioTech company there was a cartoon in the lab that showed people in lab coats talking to the press. The comment was: 'We are looking for a cure for cancer, but first we'll make
a really good shampoo' Mmm

Not in anyway knocking the science and the implications in CTCL, MF and skin cancers in general are important.

Aye, hype - there's a bit of a difference between being able to make rats go prematurely grey and being able to stop people doing so! Still, as Cindy says, I hope their research turns up some more helpful applications along the way.

heh personally I think this is bad news XD Although it's intriguing as I know craploads about the WNT pathway Cindy the WNT pathway is separate class from the RTK pathway it's own pathway although related to the G-coupled proteins in structural homology but isn't linked with the RTKs in any significant way. I had to write an essay question on the WNT-Frizzled pathway as part of my cancer biology paper aswell as the Receptor Tyrosine Kinases.

WNT is to the upper right RTKs are on the top.

I might be a tad unpopular here but I think gray hair is really pretty especially on younger people it makes me girlcrush in a mostly innocent fashion. ;)

Natalia Yanchak... Spwee *fawns*

there was also this guy at my uni who had hair like that dispute begin my age, he was just GRAGHHH so distracting had to intentionally sit on the opposite side of the room and never speak to him to not get distracted in lectures. The one time he did speak to me outside of a lecture I did the stupid tongue tied talking in lylat thing. -.-

Oh oh and Teresa Morisco

I myself got a couple of white ones when I was 19 now I have about 20 odd part of me wishes they would hurry up and multiply :D otherwise I just ignore them.

So I would challenge the presumption that it makes you look old and ugly. ^.^ Certainly not in my opinion.
