Personal Challenge

I love this site as it supports everyone, whether we are new or have been here for some time.  One thing I constantly read are short comments about how 'gurls' hide inside and never access the wonderful world.

So, this is for people to post the challenges they have given themselves and passed.  Feel free to post your next challenge once you get braver.

For example I used to hide inside all the time.  One day I challenged myself to go out and collect the mail.  I then challenged myself to go outside one night and drive into the city.  My next one was to walk up to the local shops and visit the ATM in daylight.  My final successful challenge was to go to this beautiful lookout we have, which looks over our city, in the daylight.  All of those I have done and I feel so much better for it.

The challenge I have not been able to have enough courage to do is to go into a shopping centre dressed and buy something girly...anything, just for me.

I hope this post, or series, or whatever you call it, helps.  I think it will as we will all be there with you and you can celebrate your success here with us.

I really like people who find the time to help others and your post will.

I have to admit that pretty close to being challenged out, but to support you, one of the easiest challenges was to go shopping in full female mode. Shop assistants really don't care, they want the sale. Just be pleasant and ask 'Can I try this on?'. You will get, 'Sure, changing rooms are at the back' , then you will get, 'Does it fit' it is a gorgeous skirt (whatever) I have a perfect blouse, shoes, handbag ear ring perfume anything you can possible buy, that will really go with it. 'cos they want to sell stuff.
Just don't go shopping looking like you are going to a party, wear what other woman your age do.

Can't decide where this fit, but more or less it's been one of my personal challenges.
I've been wondering a long time how people are reacting to different outfits I use.
So mostly I've been using female jeans with male/female tops based on my first experiences.

Couple of last summer has been real hot and I like wearing "way too short" skirts at home 
Finally I found decent not too feminine black skirt which I could use outside too.
Last week, I've been shopping as a male 2 days in 2 different towns dressed in black skirt and male t-shirt (dragon print).
And nobody cared how I looked.
I think, most people didn't noticed that I had a skirt or they just don't care.

So the biggest challenge I still have is to develop my own style, so that I can mix and match male/female clothes/shoes/accessories...

  Rebecca, I'm so dammn proud of you !!!!!!!!! I said this at a Fredricksburg Virginia group years ago  in a scrapbook for it's members , "Stop the shame ".... You dear have surpassed that stage  . Yes dear, you have gone and  , JUSDONE IT !!!!!!!!! Good going Rebecca!  What you did is easier said than done.  I so much can relate to all the girls here.  The more I do dressed as a woman, the more I want to do.  The other night I went out with a GG friend to a club and after getting dressed and instead of calling a cab, we walked to a bus stop and took the city bus to a club.  I would never done it alone but with her it felt good.  It defiantly would be a challenge for me to go out shopping in the day time.  Having a friend to go with sure helps.  Keep on doing more.

Good for you Rebecca, I love doing things when dressed as Jean but don't have the courage  The best I did was go grocery shopping while wearing my bra, panties and nylons but what a rush that was. Of course I did this in the winter when I had on a coat lol but it was fun  . Thanks for sharing.

Hi Everyone,

It doesn't matter what everyone else does.  What is inportant is what you do.  I put this post up so that we may be able to help others have courage to give themselves little challenges and we support them.  Even stepping out of the house is scary the first time, but once you do it you want to do soemthing else and so it continues fro there.

Even the smallest steps can be terrifying, yet exilerating. All I've managed to do thus far is to step out on to my apartment's balcony during the night when nobody would be able to see me. The simple act of being technically outside while dressed up was a thrill on it's own. Unfortunately the next step of going out the front door into the brightly lit hallway, and the wide open lobby complete with security cameras, is a little more daunting. But I'm satisfied with where I'm at for now.

What can I do further as a dad of 3 kis? I am not quite sure.

I go shopping in full dress whenever I want. It is easy for me to act and look like a woman. I am anonymous to them.

The problems is those who know me very well. They know that I sometimes wear skirts and heels. However, I never stand on a platform while wearing a skirt or heels. Nowadays, I do not wear heels or skirts while I am with my kids. And no more tubetop.

My next challenge may be wearing a bikini in a beach, but I am not quite sure how I can deal with the bulge.

But, a more urgent issue is my aging, approaching 50s. Delaying senility is more important than what and where to wear.

Hi.

Yes I did have a major challange, Apart from many others .

     Two main ones were , the fear of not being accepted for who i am . & knowing i was going to be interviewed for Our nation'  wide N Z T V  statons our two main one's ,  3 millon people ,  & of   cause two of our papers plus a few others ,  & my surprise of being on the net www. = june / july 07.
& then of cause being invited to talk to some large groups of people

So as a back drop . i was a loner hated being around people could not string two lines to gether  let a lone stand in front of people & talk ....no way..if a camara was about i was gone.

& when you have dyslexia  major & learning probs , youll understand what i had to deal / work through .not so easy ,

So may be it was not a challange after all. for some,   may be not

Are there any other challanges,  i dont know ,  may be just living  heck thats a tough one, ill work on it ,,,,,

The tested Susan's Wiki tucking method works pretty well, but everybody's different. Lots of girls like us wear bikinis successfully, though (I must admit I haven't).

As for aging, "senility", a less formal term for the general range of conditions know as dementia is not something that happens to everyone. While Alzheimers can strike anyone, most persons can remain very sharp to the end of life by keeping active in mind and body (which you certainly are doing now). Just keep it up and you'll be fine. As for looks, you currently look better than 90% of women your age, so there's no reason you can't age further better than most as well, Barbie darling.

Since I've been doing the crossgender dressing thing since the '80s, I've kind of passed giving myself challenges. Perhaps I should do one now and then. I'll have to admit it seems a bit teenager-ish at this stage, though. At some point you'll probably grow tired of the kicky dare thing and just be comfortable being as feminine as you wish when you wish. That's what I do, anyway.

Thanks for posting.  I was actually aiming at people such as yourself with this post.  It can be scary, but fun and worthwhile at the end.

Thanks for your reply. It's a little bit long time, but your existence here is always great.

Yesterday the wife of one of my friends strongly recommended me to use some cosmetic products that she is selling. I just nodded, but did not ask the price tags.

I still love my wearing high heels. It is always exciting, as I am not allowed to wear them freely like other women. Maybe next week, I will have a chance to wear while meeting my old friends.

Well, it is one thing to challenge yourself to go shopping............the thought of walking primly or wiggly through the shopping centre taking it all in.............sometimes it just turns out funny.

Last Tuesday I decided I was going to go to the shopping centre, not to buy anything girly, but just to buy some ingredients for dinner.  It took ages, as usual, and I had bought a couple of things over the preceding couple of weeks to wear so I was all set.  It was a little bit bleak and rainy, but nothing overly serious and so what better way to spend it then attempting to do something indoors.  I especially spent a long time shaping the fringe and bangs of my wig and sprayed hair spray and it looked really lovely.  I was also really happy with my makeup...finally.

I drove to a couple of different shopping centres until finally deciding upon a place called Strathpine which is in the northern suburbs of Brisbane.  I stepped out of the car and whoosh!!!! my hair went everywhere.  Walking to the front door of the centre I couldn't see a thing and was constantly wiping my hair out of my face.  I thought: "blow it" (no pun intended of course) and just kept walking inside.  My hair was an absolute mess. 

I walked in all the way through to the supermarket which is probably a 100m walk passed a lot of people and plenty of shops.  Strolled around the supermarket for a while getting my food and then came out again.  Huge smiles on my face due to the sillyness of it all.  All that preparation down the drain.  It was funny though and perhaps we shouldn't take all this stuff so seriously.  I have a photo of when I came outside, but can't work out how to attach it.  As soon as I do I will post it too.

Mine will be to actually accept myself andbe ok with Bert and Pansy living harmoniously. That will be the best. Psychotherapy did not work so well, but probably half my fault. I dunno, time takes time and it is what it is.

Rebecca, cheers to you and the challenge you are posing... Tonight, i can't do it, because of various sucky factors.  But, it definitely illuminated me on the possibilities of what there is to offer out there since the last time I went out (which, sadly, was a year ago).  Honestly, I could go out and drive around or go to the nearby gay club at night.  One roommate works at night and the other is always out, so it gives me possibilities to actually be free.  Thanks for bringing the issue of being free back to me.

You want challenge ? Hummmmmmm, how about doing what I currently do . I am a teacher for medical personnel so to speak . Yes , I'm a full time trans -woman who had to stop H R T a while back over some other medical complications . Did I let it stop me , NO ! Far as most are concerned , I'm just an elderly woman who shares her life experiences with Nurses and Medical students who need to work with people like myself in say a Nursing home .

See, most of these people only see trans people on talk shows , drag shows and the seedy side . I'm trying to change that . You betcha it's a challenge ! ellen

I have been gettin into wearing heels, or heeled boots with my skinny jeans or capris lately. Not totally infemme, but it's fun just to go random places and take in the observations... usually onle mayby 10% negative!
