To be serious for a moment, psychiatrists that deal with gender issues want to see what sort of a woman you think you are.    Dress like a university first year at 60 and you will be classified as a fetishistic transvestite.   However, if you go all prim and proper, he will write ' patient has unrealistic views of what a woman should be.'    That is why I do my own thing, I don't require anyone's approval - well except my mother's - and I don't scare the horses.

I think every therapist is different when it comes to this issue.

For example, what I wore to my therapist was what I was wearing that day. I didn't really dress for the appointment but I do dress "conservatively."

I cannot read into my therapists mind but I believe because I presented nicely and was usually in a good mood when I visited her, I got my letters fairly quickly. HRT in one month and SRS letter in 6  months (I had already been living fulltime as Annah before I saw her).

My motto is, if the therapist has unrealistic expectations on how a trans should dress and even dressing conservatively is offensive to the therapist then you need to find another. If there are no others in your area there are a lot of certified therapists and psychs who will do phone consultations and make it count as if you were face to face and many of them do financial sliding scales based on your income.

The nice thing is you dont need to be full time for your letters  like me 4 months and i got both 

you got SRS letters without being fulltime and in 4 months??? To be honest, you are the first girl I met ever that accomplished that because WPATH requires full time experience to be eligible for SRS.  I thought you stated in an earlier thread you are just starting the transition?

You also stated you are 17 .


These are the requirements of getting SRS letters (Per WPATH on their website):

Eligibility Criteria. These minimum eligibility criteria for various genital surgeries equally
apply to biologic males and females seeking genital surgery. They are:
1. Legal age of majority in the patient's nation;
2. Usually 12 months of continuous hormonal therapy for those without a medical
contraindication
3. 12 months of successful continuous full time real-life experience. Periods of returning to
the original gender may indicate ambivalence about proceeding and generally should not
be used to fulfill this criterion;
4. If required by the mental health professional, regular responsible participation in
psychotherapy throughout the real-life experience at a frequency determined jointly by
the patient and the mental health professional. Psychotherapy per se is not an absolute
eligibility criterion for surgery;
5. Demonstrable knowledge of the cost, required lengths of hospitalizations, likely
complications, and post surgical rehabilitation requirements of various surgical
approaches;
6. Awareness of different competent surgeons.

*  South africa has a very open constitution dont ask me how but i was examined by some of the head gender therapists in my country and took countless tests. i have the letter its just not valid till i go full time     but i still have it and yip been on puberty blockers since feb and e since june. *

1) The "open constitution" has nothing at all to do with any of that, sorry. Recall, WAPTH is internationally recognised by surgeons.

Then you do use the plural... there is only that one!
He the ONLY gatekeeper for Steve Biko Academic Hospital gender-clinic.
There was Dr. Levinson, now long retired who was gatekeeper for Dr. Ladas who has not done any SRS for over 10 years. He decided to stop. Had too may problems. What you relate sounds not right to me at all.
Also, Colin INSISTS on 1 year with him on RLE, R450-00 for 15min. First consultation R 980 for 50min. Must see at least every month, and he does NOT prescribe HRT at all.
Have no idea who you where seeing... to call some of the head gender therapists...

3) You may have gotten AA but not really E.
Dr. Colin is not usurped by ANY psychiatrists! They all scared to touch that "hot iron" GRS. There were plenty issues with come backs not so long ago.

4) Lastly there is Prof. Lindeque, head of gynaecology at Steve Biko. AND I KNOW FIRST HAND HE DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY OTHER "LETTERS" FROM ANY OTHER THEN DR. COLIN.

So.... I don't know what your "letter" has cost you, but even if you take it to Thailand they will not very likely except it under the current given circumstances. My best guess.

If that sounds like a "dumper" for you right now, you BETTER do your full time 1 year RLE and HRT lest you be disappointed later on. Just my take, there are REASONS.

I know we are all impatient (include me) but I accept there are good reasons to follow WAPTH "rules/guidelines".
And BTW, SA follows very closely what is done in the UK, it has nothing to do with our constitution.
So don't mess with your health all I shall say.

WPATH is international and South Africa also follows it.

So I don't still understand how you got SRS letters without doing the Real Life Experience first or even started to transition yet (except for taking AA).

Honestly the girls I would call that wouldn't give a hoot what I or anyone else thinks-period. They think they are very hot & sexy and are quick to tell me, you, & the rest of the world to go ____ themselves: not trying to be difficult for you-I'm just sayin'.
