We can't really honesty be collectively pissed at the media for getting terminology wrong when in reality the supposed "community" can't all agree on terminology themselves.. and until "we" collectively start respecting the language we speak we can't expect others outside the community to do the same.
In reality (at least for me) it seems so painfully straight forward that it really makes me wonder. They be stoopid they be trollin? :S *so many shrugs it resembles a dance*.
except that more and more, we see the media using terms that even the subject of their particular story DOES NOT IDENTIFY WITH! And then when the request is made to use a more appropriate term, the media often ignores the request (as a good example, just look at almost every article on the Araguz case that has followed her blog form late April...only a few media outlets have respected her stated wish NOT to be identified as 'transgendered').
Getting the 'community' to agree on terms isn't going to ever even remotely be close to happening until the 'community' first begins to respect the right of people NOT to be under some collective umbrella term...
