I just found out my high school school is spending something like a million dollars to renovate the locker rooms and build a separate PE building (why the hell do we even need buildings, we have two gyms) for the guys. (It's bigger than the girls', shock.  ) I get that it opens up jobs for new PE teachers, but. It feels like they could have bought books, art supplies, etc. I get it, we're fat, but good god, there's more important things we need.

It doesn't reallyapplyto me, since my high school only requires one semester of PE, and I already have my credit. I was in a mixed-sex class and I changed in a stall in the guys' restroom. We took role by last name. It was easy to pass as a guy for me.

BUT UGHHHHHHHH IF THEY CHANGE THE REQUIRED CREDITS I'M GOING TO GO BALLISTIC. I mean, it's unlikely they will, but. Oi. I really like PE, we did a lot of awesome exercises, but I can't help but think they'd make the classes different based on sex. In middle school, when it was segregated, you could tell it was different. They pushed the guys harder. It was dumb. Everyone had the same responsibilities in my class. Sure, people separated themselves based on sex, but it was by choice. It seems like a huge waste of time to separate everyone.

If I do have to take the PE class, I don't think I could stand it. The principal doesn't really understand, since he more or less sees me as "a girl who's confident enough to dress and act like a guy". I'm not confident, I dress for comfort and act like myself. I do care what people think of me to an extent, and passing is important to me so that I can feel somewhat normal. There's no mixed-sex school sports to take the place of PE. The mixed-sex PE was good. More people to talk to.

I can see your frustration, and I don't like that boys and girls are treated differently in gym classes, either.  The way I see it, exercise is exercise.

But honestly, I wish that my PE classes had been separate because at my school, gym class was what the idiotic boys saw as "Ooh, it's that class where we get to stare at and grope unsuspecting girls in gym shorts and get away with it because the coach won't do anything to stop us, even if he sees it happening."

I (speaking from my female self here) hated it.  I turned four people in for sexual harrassment in just two years because of this.  (And Sage hated it because he didn't like to be felt up, either.)  No matter what higher-ups I told about it, no one ever did anything to stop it; the offenders were never punished.  They all pretty much just called me a liar and dismissed me.  I hated it every single day.   

The harrassment didn't stop until I tried to stab a guy in the eyesocket with a ballpoint pen when he tried to grab my breast and stick his tongue in my ear.  He then proceeded to call me a 'dyke,' (which is stupid because I'm bisexual and prefer men, I just didn't like to be objectified) and never approached me again, just threw insults at me from a safe distance.

I promise I'm not trying to make you angry or start an argument.  I just wanted to share a different point of view with you, and I hope that's okay.

It seems like common sense would dictate pushing the girls harder, since less testosterone would generally mean it takes longer to build muscle. But that's still kinda sexist, everyone really ought to be expected the same. I liked that about the class -- modified/girl push-ups got less points, everyone was expected to run the mile in the same amount of time, etc. 

Wow, sexual harassment? That's horrible. Even worse that your coach would just allow it to happen. I woulda got witnesses/fellow victims. Or would that not work, either. -_-; Can you say "future rapist"? ->-bleeped-<-, I consider myself pretty nonviolent, but that guy really ought've been stabbed in the eye. People are people, not playthings. Ugh.

Nah, dude, I figure different strokes for different folks. I never had a problem with sexual harassment, as pretty much all the guys saw me as "that gay dude whom the coach thinks is a chick/that gay transdude". One chick hit on me (and hit my ass once) but I didn't think anything of it, since she didn't really bother me. A lot of schools seem to have a distressing need to amp up their sexual harassment preventions. (Or maybe corporal punishment is in order for some jerkfaces.)

I agree, sexual harrassment really needs to be taken more seriously.  It seems like no matter how many witnesses one has, or other people speaking up, nothing is done.  The guys who did this were total jocks (not to label people or anything) and the coaches just saw the girls complaining as whiny little drama queens who were just mad because those guys wouldn't date them, or something stupid like that.   

I actually filed a formal report once, and they STILL didn't do anything.  All they did was look at me with this apathetic stare, and said, "Well, you see, we can't take any legal or disciplinary action against (a-hole's name), because you see, incidents like this are very hard to prove, and we wouldn't want to punish an innocent person, blah blah blah...     Needless to say, I was royally frickin' pissed, ubt I didn't think throwing a hissy fit in the principal's office would have helped my credibility any, so...   

Funny you should mention that, I've heard through the grapevine that some (mostly high) schools are reinstating corporal punishment for severe cases.  The way I see it, so long as it's fair, smack the crap out of those jerks!     That'll teach 'em to act like bullies and keep everyone else from getting their learnin's on!  lmao

I work in a high school. We are told to NEVER  even touch a student and never raise your voice toward a student. Any grievance whatsoever, if they don't comply with a stated directive, call the police.

Wow, I wish you worked at my high school.     I think the way you guys do it is a better idea, quite frankly.

Calling the police sounds like a good idea. I think a lot of schools have cops that work for them for things like fights (at least, ours does). Kind of terrible that a person would need to call the police over it, the school really needs to do something about it.

If the school won't do anything call the Police, and have your parents there to back you up( the angrier the better).  Also if there have been a series of incidents, talk to the Police about that too.  Preferably to a female officer.  A sexual assault is a sexual assault, on the street or at school.
